    Hey Folks.

My Prinsu rack is in the process of being built and am now looking for some thoughts on which RTT to order. My plan is to mount it on the cab and I am really just looking to have 2 adults and a kiddo in the tent. CVT appears to be lighter which is nice for install and removal, Tepui has rugged and the list of pros/cons goes on.

What tent would/did you buy for this type of configuration?

    Thanks and here's to spring!

    Dirk

I bought my CVT Mt. Cayley for the price and size. I had an access cab when I bought it and it fit on a prinsu rack over the cab nicely. Now I wish I had a bigger tent for the runner.

Trucks looks great. I am thinking the next size up for a tent for sure just wondering how much the extra weight of the the rugged is worth it. My truck is used to drive to a trail head with a trailer of Moto's or bikes and that's how I explore.

I'd say if you can afford it, get rugged. I like both Tepui Ruggedized and CVT summit series.

@SixthSnail - did you mount the rooftop tent on the OEM Toyota roof rack? Or is that a third party rack? Thanks.

I had it on a prinsu on the cab, then Thule on the bed cap, then front runner on the 4Runner

What kind of process is it to "put up" and "take down"
I don't mean putting on the truck but you wanna pack it up at your site quick to hit the road..

Just take poles out (1 minute), fold in half (20 seconds), put cover on (2 min).

@SixthSnail thanks for the info. I have a '17 double cab taco with the OEM roof rack. I know the crossbars won't be able to handle the weight of the tent plus two occupants. Instead of of buying a whole new roof rack system, I am wondering if there are any after market companies that make a heavier duty cross bar to fit the Toyota OEM roof rack.

Lose the OEM rack all together. Go with a system that's meant to handle weight. I went with the Rhino Rack Backbone for my Tacoma. SUPER STRONG and really easy to install. Bolts directly into the factory holes that the OEM rack came out of. No

Was just released a few weeks ago. Can hold a static weight of 750lb or something like that. 220lbs Dynamic which is more than any crossbar system out there. DOT Regulations are 165lbs I believe.

I have one of these.. http://www.autohomeus.com/ I am very happy with it. It's mounted over the bed, but I did have it mounted on my Honda Pilot for a while.

iv been searching for an answer to this question for a few weeks with no solid answer or even opinion....iv got an undercover SE bed cover. its a hard cover in case you don't know. my question is, does anyone think that this or any other tent would mount/sit securely/be secured on the bed cover. i don't want a roof rack system or anything. i just want something that can be put on my bed cover and be "reasonably" secured. the surface area is safely 5' x 5' may just end up being a regular tent from academy or something.

We love our Kukenam Ruggedized. I'll never sleep on the ground again. I never had it on the roof. I did have it on bed bars before we got the trailer.

Interesting tent set up. I guess if you like the sound of rain on a tin roof if would be nice. How are the aerodynamics on the highway?
