I see lots of trucks around here for like 7500 to 10k with like 150k miles on them and there is a pretty decent demand for first gens too. I do agree it's not all that practical dumping so much money into an old truck, however... god do I hate road salt..

and throw in, for many, these are our Daily Drivers... so throw in the fact that you either need to take the time off work, or figure out transportation (seriously think about it, how feasible is it to not be able to drive for a week, even in an emergency)... there's a lot more to the picture when you really start looking at it.

Well I am assuming with a new frame (per the hypothetical)

Granted these are asking prices, so who know what'd they go for. But this is the pulse of first gens up around here.

These listings are from just this week.

    $10.5k : http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/5512281877.html
    $12k: http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/5521447300.html (DC)
    $14.5k: http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/5516716660.html
    $10.6k : http://boulder.craigslist.org/ctd/5526904627.html
    $16k : http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/5512935952.html

I could easily get $10-12k for my truck. A meticulously maintained 3.4 manual 4x4, with the j-shifter. Sliders. Full OME suspension.

    No over-the-top mods, etc.

ahh ok, I gotcha. I was thinking before the new frame.
FWIW the guys selling for 14.5 and 16k are smoking crack! Hell TimmyJimmy just sold his 04 lifted DC (Cleanest 1st gen Tacoma I've seen) With full armor, Rack and RTT, with under 100k miles for $13.

And I didn't figure in the average buyer who isn't willing to search for deals or really negotiate (hence why car max is in existence... no haggle... lol).

You do have a damn clean truck though

    Thanks man.

And yeah there's always a buyer. While many of us here would pounce on TimmyJimmy's truck, mods like full armor often lower the value of trucks.

Oh, and I have CBoy/sockmonkey retro hood decal. That adds at least $500-1000 to the asking price.

I'm fairly sure they don't actually produce the frames anymore and the catalog is just wrong. Most of the stuff camelback sells they have to source from other dealers that have it in stock.

it was, amazing deal. I'd have bought it, and sold my 99 if I could have. but I just couldn't swing the $ to buy, swap some stuff off my truck (front bumper, skids, etc) then sell my 99.

Cross members are not included in this price though. Depending on what needs replacing, add another $500-$1000 for them.

Spending $2,500 just on a frame is certainly a lot of money as I know there would be other parts that would need attention. I'd expect $4K to be the budget to do one on my own. I love my 95.5 reg cab 4x4 V6 as it is rare but since I'm not rich, I don't know if I'd spend $4K on it to do a frame.

    yea.

and if you can't replace it, the job is quoted at 60 hours of labor, which is going to be around $6k on top of the frame. Plus all the little shit....it's easily a $10k job if you have the dealership do it, and it doesn't "add" value to the truck at all.

    Probably a long shot buuuttt.....

I'm looking for 1 or both switch blanks that came in the lower dash portion of a first gen (possibly 01-04 only, not sure). Grey interiors only.
I'll gladly throw you a few bucks or pay for the ride to get em to me. Located in 37923. Thanks in advance and heres a pic for reference.

ARB bar, XRC2 9500lb winch, Full OME set-up, 882's w/ JK spacer, dakar w/ D6XL AAL, Camburg UCA's, extended brake line, Snugtop Rebel, Weathertech mats, extended rear breather, Rigid Dually D2's, Odyssey Dual battery, Blue Sea ML-ACR, Blue Sea Fuse Block, Dometic CFX65DZ more to come, albeit slowly.
I have the truck pulled in the garage with the front axles out, struts out, and LCA's in pieces. Going to swap in the Whiteline bushings. I had planned on doing the ES poly bushings swap but found out that won't work since i already replaced the ruined factory bushings. I got come CVJ axles with the high angle boots and am swapping my 883 coils for some softer 882's. Just playing the waiting game right now.

OK, so I need to do the headlights.
I think this may be am OEM brush/bumper guard/whatever.

Is there any way to remove the grill and do the headlights without removing it?
    The clearance looks too tight.
Now I know I can remove the side guard in front of the headlights, they have screws

Now it also looks like there are a couple bolts on the bottom, so maybe a couple can be removed, and a couple loosened and it can swing forward.

    I dont know.

Sorry about the orientation, its getting auto-rotated by the forum software

I think you should be able to loosen the bolts on the front lower part of the grille guard and pivot it down slightly. That should give you enough room to pull the grille and lights out. I think...
