Don't think I haven't thought about it.. if I winter camped I'd for sure have a canvas mansion with a wood burning stove.

Where? The cheapest ones that I've seen are priced up around $6-800.

Friend says he bought four of them for that from a surplus dealer near "Lost in the woods". Said the winter liners and pot bellied stoves cost more. Maybe your source come with all of that included.

Local surplus supply shop I think was asking $850 for just the tent, the poles, and the ropes/stakes. No winter liner or extras.

    Yikes. Too much.

Back on track-ish... Anyone else still running a Primus Omni-fuel? Not the lightest arragement but always works when I need it.

I'm loving my Tactical Taylor Fight Light pack and BCUSA tarp. I plan on getting a milsurp gortex bivy so I can sleep on the ground.

Got it on sale for $100. I have a padded belt I'm working on for hunting/hiking.

Yeah, $850 for an 18x18 was way more than I was willing to pay. I'd consider getting one for a good price, just to have it as a long-term camping unit or whatever.

No primus for me. I've looked at them because they're interesting stoves, but I've already got a Coleman Dual Fuel single burner and twin burner camp stove so I didn't see the point. :notsure:

I love Tactical Taylor! I got a Mini Mav and an Admin Pouch for SAR. It's so convenient having easy access to stuff up front like that I started using it for hiking too.

I went with this big dog. It's huge, lightweight for its size, super waterproof, but keeps me dry even in blowing rain. Heavier than others, but the coverage is fantastic. I can guy line it right down to the ground, helping keep the side winds from coming up underneath.

I keep it at the top of my pack if weather is sketchy, because I could just pull it out and hunker 2 people under it to ride out a storm.

That's the same cover I was looking at from REI. It weighs just as much as my hammock system. But does look like it would cover a lot more than my current one. Wonder if it would fit into the snake skin easily.

It does fit into the XL snakeskins. I've done it. It's a snug fit, but if you spin and roll up the tarp while it's still attached to the trees, the snakeskin can be worked over it. Just a pain to cram into your pack. I just stuff it into the included stuff sack and stopped using the snakeskins.

That's a great tarp. I've seen the storm flaps on some other models, but I like this one. Nice big tarp with end coverage. Every little bit that can help keep the blowing rain and wind out of the hammock is good in my book.

Lots of coverage. Here it is set up down pretty close to the ground. It's longer than my hammock by about a foot on each end. Really great coverage. This is when I still had the snakeskins on it and on my hammock, so the tarp technically is a little longer than it looks in this pic.
