I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Now if you wash underwear from Goodwill is that considered fully rebuild ? and its like "new"

If girlfriends gets pounded by whole football team, than takes a shower is that considered rebuild like "new"

    :D

I would say within 3 years /36 000 miles bumper to bumper all warranty repairs should be with brand new parts. I believe some states have even laws written for it. I think they can ask owner and if he agrees they can put reman parts but I had never heard dealer offering reman parts on 3/36 000 warranty work.

Hey, man, my Dad was the RSM of a combat battalion. I grew up on army bases and I was dragged around the PMQ's before I could walk. His boot size is permanently tattooed on my ass.

If Toyota took a brand new transmission apart.
To check and make sure it was 100% then put back together. Would that qualify as a rebuilt transmission?

From Toyota's remanufacturing perspective, likely yes.

Though they probably would have replaced a few things while they were in there, just in case, haha.

From some people's perspective. That transmission would be inferior.

Are we really comparing a 2016 Tacoma to a 1957 Corvette as far as historical importance and rarity?

Maybe the Corvette isn't a good comparison but how about this, back then the Bel Air and Nomad were just cars. They were the 1957 equivalent of a Camry sedan or Jetta wagon. Heck, nice FJ40s sell for six figures, so they've attained semi-mythical status. There's no way to predict it sometimes.

If I was buying a used tacoma and I had a choice between one with original transmission or one with a refurbished replacement I would choose the original. But if you plan on keeping it forever it doesn't matter and at least now with the replacement you will have a tranny working as it should

many things that are remanufactured are actually better at times. They are usually more thorough with the build.

This is completely normal and while the term "re-manufactured" may make you think of a used part - this is totally not the case. The transmission you are getting is EXACTLY the same quality - if not better - than a "new" trans. ZF, GM, AISIN ect all take back basically any transmission that's faulty, this is why there is a core charge on many big ticket items if you were to purchase one yourself (like an engine, differential, steering rack - anything that's worth rebuilding) until you return the original. They can't list the part after it's rebuilt as new for obvious legal reasons, but most times the only thing they re-use may be the bellhousing or the differential casing ect which if it wasn't damaged has no impact on the brand new internals that are installed. I work at BMW and we use remaned transmission the majority of the time, and I can tell you they are of the same (or better if there was an initial manufacturing issue) quality. Most of the time you would never know either unless it's listed as one.

I am the original poster. So here is a quick update.

Trans replaced in truck. My dealer was great. In at noon and ready the next day. I am totally happy with the truck and the reman transmission.

I do have the truck for sale. It has nothing to do with the transmission or being a 3rd gen! I am buying a new boat and the wife says one of the Tacos have to go. I have both listed for sale.

So before the 3rd gen haters start their crap. Just stop! I and most other 3rd gen owners don't need to hear it. Its all been said before.
I will not respond to any non 3rd gen owners questions or bull. So in closing let me say I would buy the 3rd gen truck again. I would buy a 2nd gen again. And I will be more than happy to keep either truck as they both serve my purpose.
