    Hey everyone,

Just joined the forums as I've been a long time lurker. After years of saving up, I'm finally in the market to make a purchase on a 2016 taco. Super excited about it, but I have been slowly doing my research on what I like. I'm going to test drive a couple in the next few weeks, but I had a question about the seat height.

I'm 5'6 and I didn't realize that the tacoma's do not have height adjusters on there seats. As someone who's going from a smaller car (Lexus is250), it's definitely going to be a change of not having power seats. I guess you could say I was spoiled by driving a car such as that one.

For anyone who's my height, how is the view from the drivers seat? I don't really want to have to buy any pads to put on top of my seat, but if that's the case then I guess I'll need to consider it. And is there any news on if the 2017 is going to have power seats? I know that the tacoma is considered a utility vehicle but I still find it strange that it's 2016 and they don't have them.

Hope to hear from you guys

I'm not much taller than you. An inch or two. I have owned two different second gen trucks and here is what I found. The field of view is a little impaired on the sport model by the hood scoop but it really only affects the ability to see within around 10 feet in front of the truck. The off road or base model does not have as much of this issue. I think that you will feel comfortable in the Tacoma though. I am currently driving an Acura until my truck comes in and understand what you are talking about. The driving position on the Tacoma is sitting up a lot higher rather than having the seats basically sitting on the floor in you Lexus. Hope this helps and good luck finding your new truck.

    Welcome to TW Joe.

I'm 5-9 with 32" inseam and have been in 2016s as well as having owned several 2nd gens.

A number of guys have threads where they've used washers ect to raise the seat.

I think much has to do with how you're built.

I am 5'8" and if anything, I need the seat lower! My hair hits the roof unless I drive leaning slightly to the right. I really don't think you are going to have to raise the seat!!

I am 5' 9" and I have a Sport w/ hood scoop. The hood scoop is kind of blocking my view. I installed some 5/8" spacers I picked up at Lowes and it lifted the seat perfectly. There is another thread about this where the guy goes into detail what is exactly needed, including new bolt length, sizes and so forth. Just make sure you get grade 8.8 or stronger bolts, and save the old ones if you ever trade the truck in. Just so people know, you are unable to put them on the front bolt holes. The front bolt holes have alignment pins.

I am 5'6", and it is just fine. My previous vehicle was a 2006 Toyota 4Runner, so I sat up a bit there too. Our other car is a Prius, which is a pretty low seat position... I find I can see more in my new Taco SR5 and have no issue with seat height or visibility just using the standard seat and drivers wheel controls.
    Enjoy your truck!

I'm 5'7" and the view should be almost two feet higher then the Lexus is250. Powerseats would have been nice but it doesn't seem to be a problem for most people here, including myself.

Uh oh, you're doomed! Hope you've got a lot of people in your area to populate that phone book.

Seriously though, I'm 5'5" and no issues driving my truck. I have a TRD Sport and the hood scoop is noticeable, but I got used to it quickly. Recently swapped hoods with another member (for aesthetic preferences) for a non scooped hood and I forgot the scoop wasn't even there at first because I got so used to it. I also installed some spacers from Ace Hardware like another member posted; didn't do it to improve visibility but because I wanted to level the seat a little. I like it so far, but probably gonna get smaller spacers because I feel like I'm sliding forward on the seat sometimes.

With all the tech that went into the new Taco, I thought power seats would've been standard but definitely not a deal breaker. As for the 2017, they're going to remain the same AFAIK. My '06 Trailblazer SS had power seats and I do miss that option, but life goes on. The Frontier I had before my Taco didn't have the option either.

Coming from an is250, you'll find that your leg position will be about the same in a Tacoma, with the seat sitting so much to the floor. That may not help, but it's what I noticed comparing my 2016 to my is250c

5'9" and can see fine over the scoop and can wear a hat without coming close to the headliner.

I'm 5'-4" and the seat heigth is just fine. But my short leggs 28" inseam puts me close to the steering wheel. Have to raise the steering wheel all the way up. Get in the truck I hit my lower dash with my knee if I just swing in. I really dont see the big deal with everyone all bent with the lack of power seat. You drive your truck every day once you set it you never move it again.
Now the door arm rest too way to damn low and the window sill too damn high makin no comfortable arm rest is my pet peeve.
The high hood heigth is a bitch for everyone and takes a little getting use to.

5'5 here, and while the stock seat height worked ok I just didn't feel right or completely confortable. I also have back issues and I was having pain while driving. I used spacers and longer bolts only for the rear of the seat rail and no more back issues (which could just be that I got used to the seat regardless of height) but most importantly I feel positioned correctly. My truck is manual which gives me much less wiggle room as far as forward/back seat position as I need to be able to work the clutch easily and comfortably.

you are totally set my friend. This truck was absolutely made for folks about your height. No question about it. I am on the other end of the spectrum. I am 6' with a long torso. My head hits the bezzle of the moonroof. The cab is completely crunched vertically for taller drivers. I have no idea why, but it is not made for folks with my torso length. the rear view mirror blocks half my window as it is WAY too low for my head, but will be ideal for yours. YEs, it is beyond strange that they do not make the seat height adjustable, especially with a sunroof that drops the bezzel 2 or 3 inches. This is my 4th toyota and by far the most crunched vertical cab ever. it is really the only thing on the truck I do not like and really want to change. For your height, you have nothing to worry about. it was made for you.
enjoy the new truck, it is amazing.

Should not be a problem. I am 5' 11" & just fit. I can not wear a hat while driving. I wish my moon roof was directly over my head to get more room. I need to be higher to see over my hood scoop. I would not recommend a sport model with hood scoop if you can not see over the dash.

I'm 5'10 and it's perfect. I could wear a hat and fit. No moon roof as I have an SR5.
My 6'3" son drove it for a short trip. I wasn't thinking about the height issue at the time, but he didn't mention it or complain. But He did move the seat way back from where I had it set.

no moon roof and you have way more head room... probably 2 or almost 3 inches.
