Morning everyone!

Woke up today and somehow my seat belt strap was wet. Couldn't find anything else wet inside the truck, it was just the seat belt strap. Noticed it as I was pulling it out of the pillar to clip my belt in. WTF?!?! Not sure what and how it happened. We did have some downpours yesterday and the day before, but I didn't notice it when I get in the tuck to head home after work, just this A.M.

 

I would check the door seals and make sure there are no kinks in them or anything that may have been shut in there to keep them open a little bit (twig or something similar).

Not sure if the roof drip channel moldings are deteriorating, but that would be the next place I look. Do those go straight through the roof on the clips? If so, that may allow water in and it could of run down to the B-pillars, making your seatbelt wet.

 

Seatbelt shut in the door a little bit? Fabric would have wicked it up.

 

I took off those rubber moldings from the roof and put on the OEM roof rack a while back, but we've had a bunch of downpours since then and this was the first time it's gotten wet. Hoping it was something as stupid as the door seal having a kink because of the door not closing correctly for some odd reason.

 

The part of the seat belt that was wet is the part that's in the pillar, not the part thank hangs out of it when not in use. A little scared about this to be honest. Water inside is never a good thing...

 

I don't think it's your roof rack causing the issue. The bolts for that are at the front and rear so your headliner would likely be wet as water traveled from the bolts to the B pillar. I would put my money on door seals. Also, check everything attaches to the pillar like your door latch and rear door hinges to make sure none of that is loose (or maybe lightly caulk around them then give it a good hose test).

 

Good idea. But if I remember correctly I think there are three bolts for the roof rack. Would have to double check to be sure though. One at the front, one at the back, and one at the middle.

 

Check out this thread too - describes how to remove the B pillar trim piece. Once removed, you could use a hose and run it on your roof to see if you can find water coming in (if the door seals all look like they are in good shape). Not a bad idea to look in there anyways to see if there is rust or if it appears its been getting wet in there for a while.

I would double check the screws and add sealant if needed. I'm fairly certain there's a screw above the pillar that has mastic on the threads to seal it. I had posted pictures of the instructions on installing the rack a few years ago here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/roof-racks.315906/

 

I don't think the instructions had said to add sealant, but definitely not a bad idea. Might just do that. Take it off and then re-install it with sealant.

 

They didn't. They have some sealant already applied to the thread and have sealing washers that stick to the body.
