I have had this annoying heavy-duty clanging/rattling at low RPM and when shifting (manual trans.) from day one. It sounds like what you just described is likely the source. I'm going to check it when I get home and that will be awesome if it fixes at least the noise.

Here's a couple of pictures showing before and after. You can see how close the cable is to the shield. Mine was about 1/8". After I bent the shield it was about 3/4" away. Note, This shift cable is only found on automatic trucks.truck 1.jpg truck 2.jpg

I did find this heat shield and it definitely is a vibrator. Since I don't have automatic there's no cable though, so I'll just have to figure out how to make it stop vibrating at least.

Well, I have had about 3 phone calls now with corporate. Finally today a so-called case MANAGER calls me regarding this issue. She informed me that they have not had anyone else complain to them about any vibration or buzz in the steering wheel or floorboard. I told her I found that very hard to believe because the online forums are full of people, HUNDREDS of people with the same issue. And I've seen posts where many of you are also calling corporate. I told her that all she had to do was google it and she could find all the others with that same vibration she wanted. After a few minutes of her telling me she couldn't do that I finally asked her what they intended to do about my $41k truck that vibrates/buzzes between 40 and 60 mph ???? In her words she said, 'sir, we've determined that what you are feeling is normal." Let me stress that again. She said nothing will be done because what we are all feeling is NORMAL! I am not very happy to say the least. It's too bad because outside of this issue, and that I think the tranny is a little 'busy' on road trips, it is a great truck.

What was the name of your case manager? It wasn't 'Monique' by any chance, was it? A few of us have had to listen to her spit out the same 'no one else has complained about this' BS....

That bull response has Toyota Case Manager Monique Sherri written all over it. If folks get directed to her on this problem, you're best off insisting on another case manager. It won't do anything to fix the issue, but it will keep your blood pressure in a healthy range. I learned that the hard way.

Come on guys, we've had plenty of Toyota Corporate employee bashing on this thread already. I feel your frustration and it's good to let it out, but please keep in mind that these are Real People who have a Job and have requirements as part of their job.

Has anybody gone to the news media with this? A local TV station with a consumer advocate type of reporter would be all over this story. Can you imagine A Toyota employee being interviewed on TV and giving these lame answers!

So do most of us that have the 2k vibes also have the low speed (20mph and lower) shudders? Kind of that rumble strip vibration that was supposedly designed out?

I have both, what about everyone else?

I do need to be fair and say these are the only problems on the truck. I have the clanking and rattling manual transmission, but I am not sure if that is a real problem.

I making some headway with my ordeal....I know for sure a toyota field tech has confirmed and verified that the drive shaft departure angle is out of spec causing the shudder/vibration on another individuals truck, so they are supposed to be reaching out to this tech to gather more info, then contact me when they want me to bring mine back in. However, the bad news is that they are still working on a solution to fix the problem.

At least they are working on a solution, that's a big step in the right direction, reading through alternative truck manufacture forums have learned many things, one is that other engines going from v8 to v4 eco mode may be a source of some vibes and can be tuned out by an aftermarket performance tuner, also pinion angles matter and may cause vibrations, shims have been used to correct the angle on some bad vehicles, harmonic exhuast resonance can also cause a vibration and many manufactures put weights and dampers on the exhaust. I have a feeling that on the Taco's it's a combo of exhuast and mainly tuning (switching from auto to atkinsons?) I'm not a engineer but that's MHO. Also for those looking at the GM twins (colorado/canyon) they also have a vibration.

I was promised a call back from them for the last 2 days....nothing.

Lying is a job requirement? The bashing SHOULD continue until they fix the issue.

I'm not sure about hundreds. From reading this thread it seems itso the same handful of people with this issue just posting over and over again.

Well, for what it is worth, several members have reported going to dealerships and feeling similar vibrations on other trucks. However, the intensity has varied. I want to say some people just may not notice it, but if you notice you are holding an electric toothbrush vs a normal one, then you can't possibly miss this vibration if you have it.

The fact that it only seems to happen in motion and goes away when taking your foot off the gas makes the driveline suspect #1. There could be side contributors such as exhaust and mounts. The fact that it happens with both manuals and automatics rules out the transmission.

Fortunately if it is a true driveline issue, well, I doubt it will make it to the end of the warranty period without something else failing (i.e. pinion bearing). Unfortunately, it could still cause a lot of damage later down the line and dealing with the vibration until failure is annoying. Especially when you are reminded every now and then that your bank account is now 35k lighter because of the two ton vibrator sitting in your driveway.....
