I got one heck of an oil change at the dealer, I'm not happy at all!

Yesterday it was cold out and i went for a short run in my truck, I noticed my engine making a weird noise. I pulled over and listened, at first I thought it was the AC fan so I shut it off. Then I thought that maybe the air pump was still running for some reason so I lifted the hood. It seemed to be getting more faint, by this time I was a mile or so from home. I shut off the engine and tried to pull the dipstick, it was stuck! My first thought was huh, the dealer just changed my oil, why would it be stuck? I managed to get it unstuck and I read the oil level. I thought it can't possibly be right, so I wiped it and checked it 3-4 more times. To my surprise, the oil level is 3.5" above the full mark!

Tonight I drained some oil, then drained some more, then some more, and finally more. Almost 4 FULL QUARTS overfilled! At this point I'm pissed, I emailed my service manage with a picture of the oil level on the dipstick. I left him a message that I want my oil and oil filter changed again, I'm wondering if the tech changed the filter without draining the oil and filled the crankcase again without ever checking the level.

Rat, normally I would agree, but I have an 9 year relationship with this dealership and 4 Toyotas later. On my recent visit the service manager loaned me his own vehicle because he didnt have any more loaners. I have no doubt that he will make it right, I just hope that it didn't cause any damage.

Yes our dipsticks suck and they are hard to read, what I find helps is painting the tip using a paint marker. That marks the level perfectly and takes out the guesswork.

DIY, yes but trying to take advantage of the new vehicle Toyota care.... Or maybe it's Toyota careless?

I'm not getting why you think they drained the tranny. If they did that, the tranny would now be dry and the crankcase would be overfull, I've only got one of those issues.

No doubt I'll DIY soon, Tacomas are easy to change unlike my 2 Camrys. Those have plastic belly pans to remove.

From what I've read on here you have to flush the tranny to get all of the fluid out, and if you have the tow package you will still have fluid in there. I could be wrong though.

Was the oil foamed when you drained it? If not I wouldn't worry too much about it...

I would not describe the oil that I removed as "foamed". I plan to check the tranny level before I go anywhere today.

Yeah it sounds like they drained the transmission and then doubled your oil.

Yeah some one has drained the tranny and poured 5qts in there engine on this forum before. The 2 drain bolts are very close and it would be an easy albeit dumb mistake. Plus you said its making funny noises. Unless you know exactly what the noise is now...

    No mods whatsoever!
Have them throw in an extended drive train warranty.

They did not drain the transmission. It would not move if they drained the transmission pan, at least not very good.

Just to give a small input. If the transmission was drained, it's just the pan that drains not the whole transmission. Most of your trans fluid is in the torque converter and elsewhere. So it "would" function as normal for awhile.

You will know it right away. It will move, but not very well.

WTF, an oil change is on the same difficulty level as brushing your teeth. (especially for a toyota tech) No excuse is acceptable on this one. It could have done damage to your engine. I would have some choice words for those folks. :censored: You may want to take your truck somewhere else to have it checked, so they don't try to bamboozle you.
