    Hello everyone.

I currently own a 2006 Chevy Impala. It's a good car, but I am looking to make the jump to a pickup. I have test driven both the Tacoma and the Silverado. I am looking at the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon, but I am pretty much sold on the Tacoma. I was hoping you guys would be able to provide me with a bit of info in helping me decide on the Tacoma and which model to go with. I will mostly be doing suburban/city driving. I will be hauling average amount of mulch or cargo occasionally, and potentially tow a small camper a few years down the road.

Anything I should look for in my Tacoma? Any buyers out there who recommend something in their truck that they love, or to avoid something that they don't like or don't really need?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

If it's a 2016 V6, get a manual. The automatic transmission in the 2016s are proving to be super faulty with erratic shifting, low fluid from the factory, and even completely failing. While not every auto in the 2016 has these problems, it's shown up a lot on here. If I were you, I'd get a manual and save myself the headache.

Welcome to TW by the way

Thanks for the quick replies and welcome.

I am looking between new and used, depending on the deal and quality of the specific truck. Would go back to model year 2013.

What I recommend (I'm quite biased) is to go with a '15. The '16s just seem to have so many issues. As far as options, definitely a tow package and a V6. Since you'll be doing mostly street driving, go with an SR5. If you want to pony up some more dough, check out the TRD Sport options. They're just a bit flashier and nicer.

I like the TRD Sport. The outlet in the bed would come in handy, and the flashier exterior is nice. From what I have seen price wise around where I am, there isn't too much a difference between the SR5 and TRD Sport around here used wise. If I can find the right dealer and the right deal, I could get the TRD Sport for the right price.

I haven't heard too much about the problems with the 2016's, but from what I have read now they are concerning. This is especially so considering the usual high ratings and reliability of the Tacoma.

Anyone have any features or options that they wise they had, or feel are indispensable to the experience?

For me, my manual transmission. They're harder to find but worth it in my opinion.

I did not want heated seats, but mine came with them as part of a package and I love them.

    I love the manual.

    Welcome and good luck!

Alright, so I found a deal today that I could not pass up. 2016 TRD Sport, Inferno color with only 459 miles. A guy bought it as a new lease for his wife who was out of town, she comes home and doesn't like it and it gets returned for a Rav4. Had to be sold as used with the discounted rate, and they gave me full Kelly Blue Book for my Impala plus a great interest rate. Drove her home today. Came with trifold hard Tonneau cover, bug guard, and getting it undercoated to withstand the Pennsylvania weather.
