I just did the timing belt in my 1999 v6 for the second time (188k miles). The first time I didn't replace the hydraulic tensioner because with the bluepoint tool to compress the old one it saves at least an hour of work, and it still looked good. Well this time around I removed the AC compressor and replaced the tensioner, and the old one actually looked great. No leaks and was still tight, I don't think it needed to be replaced at all. Unfortunately you can't really evaluate it until you've got it off the truck. Just food for thought. I replaced every other moving item that touches the belt. It's a full day job if you take your time and make it all perfect. The new OEM belts have markings on the belt that line up with the cam and crank sprockets that make timing it a snap. The first time around the belt didn't have that and it was a PITA because the markings on the cam plates are off by about 1/2 tooth. Anyway, good luck. It's not bad, but plan a full day.

Just got all the parts in today. It does include a water pump, cam seals, idler pulley tensioner puller and tensioner. I figure 240k on the clock will definitely designate all new parts in there.
Today, I replace the worn ball joint the ruined a brand new tire in no time. Also got new pads on there. I guess the PO put slotted and drilled rotors on. Interesting for a non sportscar or towing truck.

Haha. I bet. Unfortunately we don't get the the mountains from Raleigh much anymore except holidays. But hey, any improvement in safety/stopping is alright with me.
