Rear end clicking

I have a clicking sound coming from my rear end. I've tried to search but couldn't find much.

It seems to happen when I'm slowing down and applying the brakes. Especially when in reverse.

I thinks it sounds like it's coming from the drum area but I'm not sure. I just greased all the driveshaft zerks. Topped off diff fluid.... I do have some slack in the driveshaft and carrier but nothing that hasn't been there for thousands of miles.

I tried to get a decent video hanging out the door. Any insight would be appreciated.

 

Do you have a limited slip differential? Did you add the friction modifier fluid?

 

I did when I changed it. Not just now when I topped it off

 

If you think the clicking is coming from differential, try changing to a different brand of oil and friction modifier fluid sometimes that cures it.

 

I've always ran Mobil 1 75-90.

It's almost like a plastic sound. Like the sounds that hubcaps make sometimes.

What's the zerk on the back of the brake drum. I've never messed with that

 

Sounds like the oil is fine then. Don't know much about the drum brakes.

 

Probably the brake fluid bleeder.

I have another truck that makes that sound when a piece of barbed wire is caught underneath it, on an axle or something. I just don't know.

Sounds like you have a Aussie locker, thats what mine sounds like lol

 

Bleeder for rear brakes leave it alone

 

This is text book U-joint failure (or pending)

And to think I just drove 100 miles today...

 

That's what it sounds like to me. But hard to pin down when it's not in person. Good news, it's a relatively cheap fix.
