Are the 700lb coils built by ICON? Wheeler's Offroad has the 700lb option for King Extended Travel, do you know if that coil is made by King?

Yes they sell the icon 700lb coils separately. If you go to their site and click on the icon parts and accessories for the Tacoma you'll see them for sale by themselves. You can also choose to upgrade the kings to the king 700lb coil as well. You'll only need it if you plan on running alot of additional weight

This might be helpful to you as well. I recently went with ICON'S in the rear and they ride awesome . I am now running a progressive set up in the front (BOSS 2.0) and a digressive set up in the rear. (ICON 2.5 w resi). Hoping to move up to the BOSS 2.5 with resi's when they release them. But the progressive to digressive ride seems to be working out quite nicely.

Hey Nick. I talked to Toytec and they have not gotten them tested to be able to determine the amount of lift they will give. They know that they will fit in terms of length, design and so on. Speculation is that they will give about 3"s of lift.

Thanks Gramps for posting that. After looking at that ICONs might work best for my needs since I'm not going to be hauling ass through the desert and here in the mountains you don't really get above 15mph on a trail. Do you think I would be fine getting the front a rear without the resis? With everything priced out I would be at $2200 for the front extended travel coilovers with 700lb springs, the rear shocks, a 3 leaf progressive aal and light racing uca's. If I wanted the front and rear resis I would be at $2800 which is more than I wanted to spend for something I'm not sure I need.

My opinion: with the added weight of bumpers, skids, sliders etc, resi's would be a good idea if for nothing more than to prolong the life of the shocks by keeping the fluid cool. Even at slower speeds, the added weight is going to put that suspension to work, thus generating a lot of heat.. Worthwhile investment IMO

Yeah you have a good point Jerry, its just a lot more money haha. But if I'm going to drop this kind of money on suspension I definitely want it to last. I think the degressive valving would work better for me than the Kings which would roughly cost the same.
Edit: It looks like the Toytec Boss lift kit would come to $2100 for everything but the front coilovers don't have resis and I'm not sure if they have 700lb coils or how it compares to ICON.

Thanks Gramps! How do you feel about the Toytec Boss lift. It comes out lower at $2100 for pretty much everything but the only thing is the front 2.5 coilovers don't have an option for resis and its progressive damping

How necessary is the 700 lb spring with a bumper, winch and skids? Is it common to upgrade or do people just rachet up the front more?

Very good to know. I suppose it is not a difficult upgrade to do at a later time as it becomes necessary?

I have zero complaints on my 2.0 BOSS coilovers. I will be moving up to Resi's when they become available simply to match resi's on all ends. But from what I have heard the 2.5's without resi are awesome. Like a said in an earlier post - this is my first time running a progressive front with a digressive rear. So far I am liking how it handles. Granted I don't baja in desert at all.

It kind of depends on your build. What is your overall plan? I think with all of my added weight now the resi's will help prolong life. But if you are not going full blown EXPO then you might not need a resi system.

Do you know when they will come out with the 2.5 BOSS coilovers with resis? My overall plan is pretty much an EXPO build. I already have a full set of Relentless Fab skids, my sliders with them are on order and I plan on getting a front plate bumper from them as well with a winch and then a rear bumper a farther down the road (after a RTT).

oh yeah, with all those goodies, you'll definitely want to make the additional investment in resi's. Your suspension and wallet down the road will thank you...

That said, my cousin is the president of the Pirates of the Rubicon and has quite a few connections locally in the Reno/Carson area. I can ask him if he is able to get any deals.

Last I heard was summer on the resi's. And yeah now that I have resi's I would not go back as I have what you mention above on my truck plus a bed rack, sound deadening, and a roof rack coming soon. Plus I am turning 315's on the corners.

Hey guys, just cause I've seen limited posts on the subject... I just bought Total Chaos UCA's and King Compression Adjustable Extended Coilovers (25001-119A-EXT).

Here are the specs on the Kings (I haven't seen them online anywhere, got the info from King):

    Compressed: 16.75"
    Extended: 22.625"
    Difference: 5.875"

Spring Rate: 650lbs. (if I remember what he said correctly)

Talked to a guy at King and he said they haven't tested it out yet, but in theory it'll have around 5-6 inches of suspension travel and an extra inch of droop from stock. I plan on achieving about 1.5 inches of lift just to get the truck level.

The guy at King recommended I try out the softer springs (not get the 700lb ones) and just preload them to get the lift I want, he thinks without a heavy winch bumper the ride would be too stiff with the 700lb springs. I'll post pics when they deliver and I install them!

I'm leaving the rear suspension stock for the time being... if I were made of money I would buy the rear compression adjustable Kings and All Pro APEX leaf packs. That'll come once I save some more expendable cash. Oh, and some 285's once these stock tires rub out.
