In case you were wondering, it is possible to stuff a Mini H1 projector in the highbeam for a quad projector set up.

    IMAG0703.jpg
    IMAG0705.jpg

It's not exactly plug-and-play. Besides the intense lens removal process, you'll have to grind down the back of the highbeam bowl (the projector threads don't reach far enough) and trim some combination of the projector shroud and the large plasti-chrome piece inside the headlight.

Stay tuned for more updates. I have at least one more trick up my sleeve. This is a slow work in progress as I wait for some back-ordered parts to get through customs and a good deal on a driver's side assembly.

P.S. I may put this test bed set up for sale once I complete the conversion on the stock headlights that are in my truck.

Finally, someone doing HID retrofit properly

Which projector are you using for the low beam?

Dropping HID bulbs into Halogen projects is not the same thing as doing a proper HID retrofit with projectors designed for HID bulbs.

    Oh, totally. Im with ya.

I envy the heck out of OP and others that have time/workmanship to do this DYI style.

Someday when our boys get older I look forward to playing around with these type of mods. Or maybe when oldest is 16 and can take an interest!

    Well done, OP.

Yea, I'm just scared of cracking open the lenses and fucking it up lol. I'd only do it on a spare set of lenses, and these look like they probably cost easily $1000 for the pair with the LED daytime running lights and all that stuff. Definitely not a cheap project to just play around with, and I also can't afford to have my truck down since it's my daily driver.

I'm following. I have some ideas also. And I'm not "dropping HIDs" in it either. More like tuned rx350s :D

The Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 (retro'd in the highbeam spot) are bi-xenon for both high and low-beam duty. Since I don't want to lose the instant-on highbeam of a halogen (I'd rather flash individual idiot drivers instead of flustering everyone with a honk), I'm plugging the stock H9 highbeam bulb into the low-beam projector (still stock) and tilting it upward. I pity the fool that cut's me off once these are installed.

So the good news is the disassembly process gets a lot easier with experience. I finally got my hands on a driver side assembly and it only took about 4 trips to the oven and about an hour to pop it open. I confirmed that the best entry point is the lower/inner corner since you can work in a straight line for several inches in both directions and there's a bit of a lip on the lens to pull on. From there just work a flathead screwdriver along the back edge of the lens and make sure to keep it warm. Try to keep as much of the sealant on the lens as possible because it is a lot harder to clean off the black housing later (the lens can take more heat and it's easier to grab the sealant).

Finished product makes it all worthwhile and then some:

Paid $80 for the grille mesh from CustomCarGrills and then another $80 the Line-X it. And the bumper is an MBRP Off Camber Fabrications. Thanks man!

I just finished doing the BHLM with a set of RX350 projectors and custom tuned STi lenses.

They look great, but goddamn if it wasn't a lot of time and effort to do it. I spent the better part of two full days dealing with the permaseal and getting it removed.

Getting the headlights apart was actually the easiest part. I used a spreader tool and it worked like a dream. 20mins in the oven at 240*F and they came apart first try with the help of the spreaders.

You need this tool. Works perfectly for getting the lens separated from the housing.
