what is the part #/actual name of the cross member/beam/crash bar that the first three bolts for the skid plate attach to? my little brother is missing it, assumed it was a crash bar, no results. lower tie bar doesn't look accurate

Alright so I started putting my lift on today (probably coldest weekend of the month of course).

We got the shocks off somewhat painlessly but the top mount of the right shock just would not come off and we ended up using a gear puller to get it off. The bottom bolt for the right shock mount looked almost like when you put a bolt in the wrong threads and the threads get kinda flattened. Idk what caused this but hopefully it threads back on pretty nicely.

Then we went down to try to get the ubolts off and I was expecting a fight for this part. We used a ton of pb blaster on the things but they just did not seem to budge. Started breaking my breaker bar before the bolts! Eventually we went out and picked up a new can of map gas and heated the bolts and finally managed to get somewhere so we used the pry bar for about 3 turns then finished it off with the impact. Did that with all the ubolts.

Then we moved the jack to the frame so we could jack it up to get the leaf springs seperated. The brake line was pretty sketchy but it seemed fine. Unfortunately I completely forgot to put a c clamp on the leafs and we spent about an hour just lining them all back up after we got the aal in there. Also the nut on top of the leaf springs was practically non existent so we just chopped it off and when we did the springs just blew apart lol. Got em all together and cut the threads and everything went pretty smooth from there.

Tomorrow we are gonna pick up new u bolts and hopefully get the aal on the other side and shocks on both sides. Only gonna do the rear this weekend because I am not feeling like freezing my nuts off doing the front too (probably would take longer too)

Bout it so far, here's the old shocks, they seem to still have a bit of life left in them despite the looks of them but I can't say I know what I'm lookin at lol.

In regards to the bolt that was galled, chase the threads.

I hope you're kidding about the shocks.

Can I reuse the large steering boot clamp? I think I have the pliers that are supposed to remove this type of clamp but I can't really see if I will be able to reuse it.

The clamps look something like this.

Edit: Well I'm looking at this video and it's pretty clear that they are one time use only.

    It's not really :anonymous: lol

    image.jpg

Scratches, couple dents, someone redid the clear coat on the cab poorly so it cracked and it looks like a dried lake bed. Tailgates bowed, guy said his kid had snowmobiles so probably put one on it and bent it. Interiors not bad though and it has good bones. Can't knock it for how much I got it for. Especially around here, it's a battle royale for Tacomas. 1998 sr5 v6 TRD 240k miles. True definition of a beater.

I have reused the steering boot clamp (the one covering the inner tie rods, right?) It is different than the picture you posted. I just used needle nose.
