So my "new" 2001 Tacoma (240k) seems as though it could use some TLC. I have changed the lower ball joints, brake pads, transfer case fluid, both diff fluids, brake fluid, spark plugs and wires, and changed the oil. Oh and removed the busted up step rails.
    To do:
I am going to attempt the timing belt, water pump and timing pulleys this week.

    What else should I do?
Is there any throttle body cleaning? IAC?

    Thanks guys! 3.4L V6 4x4 Dbl Cab

Sea foam, fuel filter, and tranny filter. Definitely clean the throttle body and MAF. Upper ball joints wouldn't be a bad idea either. Are you going to wanna lift it at all? How do your leaf springs look? An air filter might be in order. I know many people have opinions about them but I love my K&N's. I have them in all my cars. Did you change her over to full synthetic?

I will do the Sea Foam, air filter and fuel filter tomorrow. As for the MAF, where is that? Also how do my springs look? It rides really rough. I was thinking about a 2" spacer/ block kit.

I would steer away from the spacer lift, it's more money but some OME Dakar leaf packs would be a good addition with bilstein 5100's up front if you're gonna lift it. They're ride height adjustable so you can customize it how you want.
That's what I've got and I love it.
The MAF sensor is in your air intake tube just behind the air filter box. There's a wire running to it.

Plastidipped wheels would be a cheap mod that would spruce it up

:annoyed:You damn southerners and your pristine frames!

I just bought an 04 2.7l and switched all fluids overs to synthetic, spark plugs, air filter, and 2 idler pulleys. I want to do the fuel filter soon too.

Fluids (ie trans, diff and transfer cases ) are usually overlooked by most people, good to change them when you buy a used vehicle as most times they have never been changed.

Also unless it's been on full synthetic, you might stick to conventional or a synthetic blend. With high miles you can sometimes develop leaks at your seals if you switch to synthetic. Not always but it does happen
Congrats on the Tacoma BTW 1st gens are the best

I switched it to a Havoline high mileage blend to see if it develops any new leaks. If all goes well, next time I may go full synthetic.

Avoid spacer or you'll get even rougher ride, stock springs have some typical 'yota sag but not dead yet...

Thanks bud, don't know if you saw the build link, but with a little welding skills you could throw one together. It's holding up good with the RTT on it. I'm about to add a couple bars over the cab to mount a basket on.

I am curious, how would a spring develop more spring rate with a block installed? Wouldn't it ride the same?

A shackle lift or an add a leaf are way better option than a block lift. And not too expensive. Less than a full leaf pack.

A block in the rear will ride a little worse. Theres just more leverage on the leafs in certain situations and theres added axle wrap. Even without a block the stock leafs are prone to axle wrap.

Its the front where the spacers are bad. They move the range of travel down. So when you encounter a pothole and the wheel travels down it can overextend balljoints and other components. When the wheel travels up on a large hit it will bottom out the shock before ever hitting the bumpstop.

3 inch lift. bluetooth stereo. blue transparent skulls shift knobs
it wouldn't, but youll lose travel. shackle lift will increase travel with the same spring rate. add a leaf will increase carrying capacity but also increase stiffness. you may want to look into a shackle lift or dakar leaf springs with both increased height and the same spring/load rate
