Driving through Knoxville last night I managed to hit a tire and rim some idiot dropped in the middle of the interstate!
Pretty well tore up the left front suspension, even set off the airbag. I'm fine, but the Taco is badly wounded, maybe fatally. Up to insurance to determine that and what will happen. Stuck here in Knoxville until Monday at least!:annoyed:

That's my worst nightmare. I was driving once on the crowded Baltimore beltway at full speed when a rubber trashcan fell out of a truck ahead in the next lane. The woman next to me did not flinch and took the trashcan straight on. The trashcan went under her Ford Probe where is remained until she exited. I credit her for not swerving and killing all of us.

Thanks to all. I'll know something Monday or Tuesday I hope. Kinda think it ain't gonna be good since the entire wheel was leaning and seemed to be pushed back several inches in the wheelwell. It still turned but it felt just like a flat tire so it's pretty badly hurt.

    WOW, That is tough

Tires/wheels can be really dangerous; when they become detached from the vehicle there supposed to be on.

One case, a Ford F150 lost a front wheel, (driver was in his nineties), probably never noticed the loose wheel vibration. Anyhow, the wheel traveled down the road, hit a woman's Chrysler mini-van, dead center. Drove right through the front end of the van, through radiator, smashed into the engine, did enough damage to the engine and mounts to total the van.

    Nothing to mess with.

Tires at race tracks have killed and hurt more than people think.

Of course both of those instances; the tires were moving.

Damn that sucks ! Glad you are alright because that must of been a pretty hard hit to deploy airbag and all. Good luck with ins company and truck. If they total it out what are you going to replace it with ?

I was on suicide rt6 in RI driving in my 92 Ford F-250 when these little kids rolled a dual rear dump tuck tire onto the road. I was only able to slow down to 50.
    Not a good night....

Yeah, it was a HELL of a bang when I hit it. it was just around a curve, on the downhill side of a rise in the road. Didn't really see it before I nailed it. It MIGHT have been bouncing or rolling, based on the height of the impact mark on the front end.
A replacement if needed? That would depend in the settlement. Maybe another 2nd Gen. Taco if I can get one at a decent price. Also a 4Runner or RAV4 would be viable choices if I had to go with something like that.

That sucks, sorry to hear. I had a couch fall off a flat bed about 20 yards in front of me a few years back. Just barely got out of the way. Another in a buddies car a truck hauling metal scrap had s piece of metal come of and busy right through the window. That was scary as you know what. Hope it works out man.

if it was sitting on the road, its an at fault accident (failure to drive in a safe and prudent manner for conditions in play), if it was rolling/bouncing and hit you its not (did your best to avoid an obstacle with out endangering others). just saying...how it occurred can effect your insurance rates.

Well, considering that the mark on the bumper is somewhat higher then the thickness of a tire lying flat, I would have to say it was either rolling or bouncing. I think some other cars had either hit it, or some debris related to it, as there were several cars off on the opposite shoulder of the road just past where I ended up, so I think some of them might have hit it, and kicked it around...just speculation, though.
