I replaced my rear shocks with Bilstein 4600s. They are for the 6-lug pre-runner. But they fit. I confirmed with the dudes at 4 Wheel Parts.

Fatbob's is a better deal. you get procomp shocks for the rear end and the ride quality is great. it is alittle more stiff than stock but its what you get for installing an AAL.

Does anybody know if the Bilstein hd struts for our truck are supposed to have boots on them? 4wheel parts told me only on the rear shocks and not on the struts.

That's correct. The front struts don't come with boots. The OEM boots can be reused instead.

When do you know/recommend replacing struts and shocks? I'm installing the Pro Comp SST lift kit 2.75 front spacer 1.75 rear aal which is basically the same as the Ready Lift SST 2.75 front-1.75rear kit for 5 lug.

My dad bought the truck brand new in 2006 and it's basically 10 years old now and since i'm gonna do the lift, should i also replace struts? What do you all recommend?

This is how my truck looks now with stock suspension and 215/70R15 wheels. With the lift I will be putting Kumho Road Venture AT51 30x9.5R15

If the shocks are the 10 year old original, and unless the vehicle was driven by a little old lady only on Sundays, chances are the shocks/struts are up for replacement. The front shocks will need to come out, regardless.

Your profile indicates California - I don't know how close you are to the coast, but if close i would definitely have the frame inspected for the rust recall before proceeding with the work.

I had the Readylift SST 69-5510 kit installed, and bought the replacement shocks/struts separately. I think the Fatbob's kit comes with Pro-comp shocks.

Another aspect that i personally encountered related to corrosion - the LCA's were frozen in place, due to the pivot bolts seizing inside of the aluminium spacers inside of the LCA's. The consequence being that the LCA's, pivot bolts, and cam adjusters were all replaced when the old assembly was torched off. Mine was a 2010 model, and was exposed to a 5 month out of the year salt-brine bath from road salt. Again with corrosion - the fasteners that secure the the stock shocks were also rust-welded in place, and they were torched off also, rendering the shocks/struts junk.

Front strut replacement is the stock length - the spacer provides the additional lift necessary/desirable. I went with Bilstein 4600's. The rear shocks provide some of the additional lift over the additional add-a-leaf, and i went with Bilstein 5100's, which are longer than stock.

Wow thanks so much for the info and experience. I live in the Inland Empire which is basically valley/desert 1 hour away from the coast. I did notice though that some of the LCA bolts and stuff I have to unscrew and take off for the installation are rusty. Do you think this is gonna be a hassle when installing the kit? I am planning to use manual tools like wrenches and stuff. Do you think a man is powerful enough o install using hand tools only?

I really can't advise on whether it's doable in driveway - I had mine handled in shop, even though i do have air-tools at my disposal at home. In hind-sight, given the issues that i ended up facing, it was worth paying a shop to deal with the hassles, rather than me.

Some people have done their own DIY install with success here.. perhaps they can advise on that. It will need to visit a shop at some point, for an alignment, regardless.
