Seems like a nice product but for $1300, it seems a little pricey. My previous car was a 05 STi and the piggy back I bought for it only cost $600 and it came with many different stock settings, plus had a display screen where you could view trouble codes, a/f ratio, and other goodies. So if spending $1300 for aproximately 30hp is worth it to you, go for it.
I would suggest only buying this mod if you plan to have your car dyno tuned and or adding a supercharger. It seems like the APR is only option availbe for our trucks at the moment. Give it a few years and there will be more options availalbe.

It is pretty pricey but I think it is a whole kit which includes cam gears and something else. The thing that is buying me is that it is self tuning to your bolt on mods. I don't know anything about tuning my ECU to my modifications so this is amazing to me... but is it really worth the money???

If you have the money to do it.. do it. Hands down one of the best mods you an do to your truck. N/A or Boosted. It is the same kit that URD uses for their MKII Supercharger kit.

The kit comes with the ECU controller, a 170° t-stat, and exhaust timing gears. And that 30hp gain is very accurate.

I personally have been running the kit for about a year and a half, and will tell you I recommend this unit over any other tuning unit out there. I've worked with Allan Phillips personally and he is one of the smartest engineers I've met. The guy really knows his stuff. APR did an excellent job on this kit.

I can't say enough good things about it. Only negative thing I can say is it is pricey... But the saying you get what you pay for.. could never be more accurate then this.

Contact Doug at HVM - http://www.hvmotorsports.com/index2.html or Gadget at URD. Either one of them could hook you up with one.

Now they say self tuning to your bolt on's. What does that mean. Do you tell the system what mods you have and it automatically adjust or does it just figure it all out on its own. Remeber this thing will be changing and controlling your A/F ratio. I would want to be damn sure it is doing it's job correctly.
The only way I would buy this thing and use it is if I took it to a Tuner and have them make a custom fuel map. I do not trust off the shelf tuning maps because every motor runs different. The stock maps that they come with are usually tuned really conservitive so you do not blow the motor. That also means you are not getting the full potential out of your motor.

    2 things.

    1. Self-tuning is done based on engine loading. So it really doesn't care what mods you have (for the most part, there are some key mods), it looks at the load that is on the engine, as well as many other key input variables (IAT, ECT, TPS, RPM, etc), and adjusts the A/F and spark based on that. So as you add new mods, and increase the load, the X-1 will adjust the tune based on the new load. hence the "self tuning".

Now there are some mods that you will have to tune for. If you re-flash the ECU for the TRD s/c, you will have to get a new tune. If you remove/add cats, adjustments will need to be made, if you change the fuel injector size and/or TB size, a new tune will be needed.

    2. The X-1 comes with a program called Engine Guardian built in. What EG does is monitors the AFR along with what the AFR is supposed to be based on the tune. If the AFR runs too rich or too lean for 'X' amount of time, then EG will kick in and put the truck into a limp mode to prevent any damage to the motor. Essentially the X-1 monitors itself to make sure the AFR is where its suppose to be.

The map that the X-1 comes with will be based on N/A or F/I (if F/I ecu flash Yes/No), Front Cats Yes/No. This is how it is for most. when purchasing the X-1 though, tell the vendor what mods you have that way they get you the correct map. Out of the box, the tune is very good. Many hours testing the tunes in real life envirnoments under harsh conditions. Tuned to provide the most power, while keep the motor well within the safety limits of the motor.

It does sound too good to be true, but I have heard only good things from those who have them!
This is the kind of info that I am looking for. Thanks guys. Any more input will go a long way.
I'm not a racer but I love performance.
Anyone know about how much HP I gained with an intake, headers, cat back exhaust, and a throttle body spacer?

meh.. depending on which models of those mods, and how the ECU reacted to those mods.. i'd say anywhere from 10-30hp for the intake, headers, and catback. 0hp from the TBS. They are great for making noise, but won't provide any gains on our trucks.

I got a K&N stainless steel intake but a spectre cone filter on the end, a borla catback exhaust and JBA short headers. I hope that's at least 30 hp. You think the X-one will help these perform better?
