So yeah I finally get into doing my AAL and the nut binds up and I strip the Allen head on the shaft. I knew I should've used a nut and lock washer when I installed them less than 6 months ago. Who's got a solution I may not have thought of?

Spray some penetrating fluid on it and then notch it to get it out. Will that do it?
    Got a pic of it?

Can't notch it. Nut is even with the top of shaft. Maybe hit it with the torch to burn up the nylon.

Pull the rubber sleeve down a little, grip as high as you can on the piston shaft with a good pair of vice grips and work the nut loose. Try not to grab on the chrome plated part of the shaft though.

Also lock washers are a joke. Nylocks are the way to go if you don't want the nut loosening over time. Only place lock washers make sense is in high heat environments.

    Hope this helps!

Did use pb blaster on the threads. The Allen got rounded out really easy though.

Tried a small pair of vice grips but they slipped on the shaft high up. I pushed the boot up as high as possible but was still on the polished part of the shaft. Didn't notice how much higher I need to reach to get a solid grip. Off to get better grips, damn.

    1. Slide rubber sleeve down to expose shaft.

    2. Grip top of exposed shaft with channel locks or vise grips. Vise grips are preferable, and try to avoid gripping on the chrome because if it is compromised by the teeth on the vise grips it could ruin the seals and allow the shock to start leaking oil.
