So I did the soldiering fix on my comp/temp unit but it failed again in about a month.
I sent it out to a guy on ebay for him to fix but after it was delivered someone stole it from my front porch mail.
I'm trying to file a claim with USPS but not expecting any satisfaction.
    Sucks!

    Porch Thieves suck!

The dumbass who stole it won't have a use for it and will probably just toss it.

My house is next to a train bridge and I have an old parking lot across the street from me.
I'm the last of about 10 houses and have 1 neighbor.
My town is pretty nice but only a few blocks away it kind of urban (getto).
All the people on the street look out for each other but during the day its pretty quiet when we're all at work.
Have an alarm system but I guess its time for a camera.

If it was me, I would put out a "special" package with a surprise in it for anyone who decided to steal it. Nothing dangerous of course, just something really annoying or nasty.
Perhaps some sort of device that would spew dog shit all over the person who opened the package. :crapstorm:

That sucks, had something similar happen to me once. How about dog poop in a bubble mailerpak? They'll have to stick their hand in to see if anything's inside.

Homeowner's insurance might cover the theft but I'm sure the deductible is more than a new one even from the stealership.

    This is why it happened...

USPS does it the same way. At least Fed-Ex will leave a note on your door.

I'd settle for the hands, so that they cannot steal again.

Seems to me that's asking for more trouble. Remember, the guy who opens this special package knows where you live. You know nothing about him. I'd be worried about retaliation like finding my home damaged in some way. Install a camera and if you catch it on camera, let the authorities handle it after that.

Definitely get a camera pointing to porch, maybe cheap game camera that records on motion, put some old broken useless worthless junk in a box with a note that says "Fuck You, bring back my compass/temp thing you stole, I have your pic now and will hunt you down", post it up on the porch, wait for box to disappear & take footage of perp to cops.

USPS misdelivers all the time. Are you sure they actually delivered your package at your address?

I fixed mine several months ago using this guide....

    http://mdpub.com/compass/index.html

It's worked great since. I actually replaced both resistors using this method, so I have two stacks of three resistors in parallel in there. It still closed up properly. Just remember that the button on the unit also turns it off, so make sure you push it a few times to make sure it's working after the fix.

If you decide to try it again..

So I just ran into a neighbor of mine who lives up the street. I told her about the package, she told me found a electronic board in the street that sounded like my part. Not knowing what it was she threw it in the trash thinking it was garbage.:mad:

Not going to claim it on home owners ins. deductible will not cover.

Maybe add more switches as suggestd or try to mod a garage door opener.
Could shop for new one on ebay good excuse for taking my girlfriend to dinner on the dollar menu instead of a nice restaurant.
