Hi all, what's the name for this black plastic part on 2016 Tacoma's front bumper?

    000001.jpg

Is there a metal replacement for this? Thanks in advance.

I think the ancient Egyptians had a metal replacement.

Contact someone who makes metal plate bumpers. Maybe they can make a bumper/skid plate combo for the 2016.

I will take your old one if you do replace it ... the dealership drove two sheet metal screws through mine to mount the license plate.

Wait... what? Take it back to the dealer and tell them you want your front plate holder that was sent with the truck, OH and you want the NEW front bumper without the holes you paid for and they ruined it before you took possession.

That happened to me one time... Mofo dealer dip shits bolted up a DEALER AD tag to my front bumper on a bumper without a plate holder then backed into a pole after they bolted it on, IN FRONT OF ME... me: "I'm going to cancel my check I just bought the car with unless you REPLACE both bumpers." Don't put any stickers no advertisements don't drill my bumper... how hard is it to be a car dealer?? sheesh.

I don't think a metal one would make any difference. It is just a plastic cover clipped onto the rest of the plastic bumper. Mine fell off when I got into a fender bender last week. There isn't any substance behind what it is mounted to. If you want more 'protection', I would do as previously suggested and have a local metal shop fab you a skid that comes up a bit more than most and sits nearly flush with the valence.

Coming out of a creek bed, my front end bottomed out and the Family Guy Chin popped out and was hanging there. You would have thought Toyota would have secured this part better than with just some clip in fasteners that clip in part of the bumper.

That will be expensive to repair. That piece in the book is at least a grand, and $275 for the main bumper plus paint (go figure, Ive seen the price in the book) I was able to pick up a take off bumper color matched for $350. If it was hanging Im sure the clip holes are F'd up and you need the main cover too.
To the person that asked, It may be almost impossible to remove that piece without removing the main bumper, because theres an aluminum crash bar and plastic energy absorbent piece preventing you from reaching in to remove the clips

I guess I got lucky...the whole thing just snapped back together...My thought at the time was how much cheaper (not inexpensive but, crappy) could they have made this. Especially for an almost $40,000 truck...I guess plastic is getting expensive (oh, that's right petroleum [oil] is down...ooopps that idea went down the drain)...

Yes it just snaps back in real easy, but there are 2 blue lock clips that insert into the vertical retainers, they are a pinch lock, these will secure the assembly when finally snapped in place so it doesnt rattle around.
I forgot these after all was installed, very hard to get your hand in there to insert, so that's why I don't think you can R&R one without taking the entire cover off.
