Need quick opinion on truck.

So my buddy from the military is now a salesman. Well long story short I have a baby now and am looking at different options. This truck has everything I want but Im not sure about an automatic 2.7l. I currently have a manual 2.7l and it does fine.

Also he can drive it up to me for 26k otd please throw in your two cents on price and all.

I don't think you will be happy very long. Babies grow and so do car seats. Just my .02 and I can't give you any insight on the 2.7 with auto. Congrats on the baby though!

 

The wife has the 2.7 auto, it is gut less I would stay away from it. The manual on the other hand isn't that bad, that's what I have, works good for me.

 

Headline says manual. Text says auto. Which is it?

From what I've seen on here, carseats don't do that well in the back of ACs.

Cap looks nice, but a good bit of weight for the 4 to drag around, unless you really need a cap.

Before proceeding, I'd find a local AC and try that out.

 

Get yourself a double cab with a V6.

 

We're looking in the almost brand new to brand new range and a Double cab is out of the price range. The wife has a great mom car so this would just be a just in case thing. Also I'd like more room for my military equipment compared to the regular cab.

I think I'm going to shy away from that deal because my 2.7 manual is gutless enough and with the cap I think that auto will be worse.

 

That truck is overpriced. I have a '13 Double Cab PreRunner with a 2.7 auto. Bought it new for 25.4K out the door. You are the only one that can decide if a 2.7 is OK for you. If you want power whenever needed and don't care about fuel economy, go with a V6. If you want better MPG and don't mind the truck being limited, the 4 cylinder is a great truck. I've used mine as a family hauler (5 people), dump runs, always hauling something from Home Depot, and tow a car on a trailer occasionally. Does everything I need. My $0.02 USD.

 

Thanks I ended up with a 2013 AC 4x4 v6 auto. I got it for a little more but it had 10 thousand miles and a lifetime warranty even though we all know most warranties are a joke. I test drove the 4 cyl auto and It didn't do it for me like my 2.7l manual.

 

For that price you can get a brand new truck, depending on options. I just bought a new 2016 double cab short bed 4 cylinder 4x2 for $800 more than what they are asking for this truck. Granted I have a 2wd but, it is a double cab & has some of the upgrades as well. I would tell you to shop around for a new truck. I bet you can get a new 2016 for not much more than what they are asking for this. It took me 4 months of looking and shopping to find the right truck at the price I wanted.

Just another piece of advice. My wife & I just had our first baby back in January. I had to upgrade to the double cab because my 08 access cab was just not enough room. Almost impossible to fit car seats. I would strongly consider getting a double cab. I can tell you from my recent experience you will probably not be happy with the access cab in your situation with the new little one.

Also, my last 2 Tacomas have been 4 cylinder autos and I love them. They are underpowered but, I did not buy them with the expectation they would have a lot of power. I find that I am not driving around as fast anyway now that we have the little one.

 

Great response. We were looking to spend no more than 27k on a truck, I needed 4x4 since being in the military most of the places they can send me for my specific job snow heavily. My wife also needed an auto in case she ever needed to drive it so the auto 4x4 4cyl is what we were looking at and it was too much of a dog compared to my manual 2.7.

They had a 2013 AC with 10k miles 4x4 v6 that we got for a decent deal IMO. I went with the access cab because my wife already has a mazda cx-5 for the mom car and she doesn't work so the baby would rarely ride in my truck. The tacoma I got had everything I wanted for less than a new one and i demanded I get the same lifetime warranty they give with there new tacomas since they certified it. Its not a real trd just an sr5 and we got it for 27k OTD after tags and doc fees.



I almost broke down when the guy who bought my regular cab drove away. I loved that truck with a passion and hated to see it go but I have a family now and if something ever happened to my wives car we needed a back up just in case.

Funny you say that, I felt the exact same way when I drove away from the dealership after trading in my 08. Your new one reminds me of my 08, Silver, Silver, access cab with bug deflector and all I traded in. But, like you said family priorities have changed.

thank bud I had a dcsb and with dirt bikes and stuff it didn't really cut it so the extra bed length was more important to me. Plus when he's in a booster it will be better than the rear facing car seat. The wife is also tiny so she can suck it up in the back on those few rare occasions he will be in my truck lol.

 

I was so determined to make it work and keep my regular cab but i realized its not to family friendly I will always miss that truck though.

Do the bug deflectors actually work? Ive never had one also on the driver side it has the same thing over the door. What is that suppose to be for? Im thinking smokers so there car doesn't get wet while raining.

 

For me the bug deflector worked well. Most of my miles are expressway driving and definitely cut way down on the amount of bug guts I was cleaning off the window. Although it did not eliminate it entirely. You are correct about the piece on the door. It is so you can open the window a bit while it is raining and not get water in the car. I had a 93 Ford ranger with them and it worked well for some outside air circulation in the cab during the rain. I used it all the time even thought I do not smoke.

 

Very nice looking truck! I would love a v6, but I will never part with my regular cab. With the 5 speed it drives great and can fit just about anywhere. Last truck was a long bed super crew lariat. Needed 2 football fields to turn around. Lol. Good luck with the new additions.

 

man do I miss that regular cab it was so much more maneuverable and a blast to drive. This one feels like a rocket ship in comparison lol. I didn't really need a v6 but I would like to maybe pull a small camper someday ( the wife hates tent camping) and for the same price as a new 4cyl i said why not. I like the 2016s but the cockpit didn't feel right to me like the 2nd gens do but then again i was looking at the more base model ones.

I do like the rims on my new one though Ive only seen a few tacomas with them. I would like to add spydertrax spacers but Im not sure if they can take a beating off road or if there more for looks. Ive heard they don't have issues.

 

Mine pulls a 2000 lb pop up with ease. Of course I believe that the 5 speed makes it easier to get moving. But yes the v6 definitely gets to the gettin much quicker but I have absolutely no regrets. I'd love to throw a 4.0 in the regular cab. That would be a hoot.

 

had a 2009 4 door sr5 4x4 w/4.0 great truck ,just too long for me and my ranch.had to put rock sliders as insurance every time i went around the tree line.my single cab is not the power house my 4.0 was but that little thing in 4x4 is mean..it goes around the tree line no rub(it also has rock sliders) rc has this turning radius that i am amazed with.if i had a 4.0 in that thing i would lift it 6 inchs.

 

My double cab Tacoma works fine with my son, no issues fitting a large car seat at 5'9". However a taller person may feel a little cramped up front because my driver's seat is back about as far as it will go with the car seat in.
