    Basically I am going to have the same setup as Jake for more flex, right now I have close to nothing in the rear :pout:

    Yes but that can be accomplished in factory shock location with and 11" shock.

    you do get better up travel. and if you look at any stock jeep the lower control arms are only 20 some inches long. our springs from front mount to axle are at least 25 inches long. so you in theory have better geometry and droop then a jeep does. the limiting things are your springs and your shackle. sense you have a larger leaf count pack making it be a little more flexy with the dakar pack and doing a flip kit/ longer shackles it allows you to flex more

    On the plus side - the re-locate that Jake does allows for a lot more options in shocks to be installed.

    Jake I am sorry. Not wanting to change these guys minds about any business with you I just want to make sure that it is fully understood. I went through this as I did my shackle flip and knowing now what I do I would not have done one.

    The shackle flip really only gains you lift if you are maintaining the factory length springs which I believe are 59"s. The perception of more droop only comes because you have moved the shackle pivot point down, hence the lift. Overall GOOD travel number remain the same because to keep good spring use you need to increase the bump stop to work with your new shackle position. Therefore you really do not gain any more travel because the spring is still the same length that is was before. Yes you can gain more travel by NOT changing your bump stop length. But now what you do is put the spring into a negative arch situation. Which from my direct experience kills a leaf pack quickly and runs you the risk of breaking leaves. I did my flip with stock length AP EXPO Packs and they lasted me only one more season before I broke a leaf and they quickly flattened out. Hence the reason I went to 61" Alcan leaf packs. I also redid my bump stops to insure that the pack flattens out and just barely goes negative. Nothing further. In theory you can gain more travel with a longer shackle. But that too will give you MORE rear lift and also works negatively on the spring because it pushes down the rear arch on a consistent basis.

    If you truly want to gain travel and droop you would run 63" springs on an SUA set up and maintain the inverted shackle utilizing a longer inverted shackle to control how much lift you want. SUA allows for some insane travel and droop but you sacrifice clearance under the axle tube. At Rock Therapy this year I will show you 2 trucks running SUA and you will truly see some flex. Recently I have been seeing some guys doing spring over 63" springs. They are doing a shackle flip and moving the front spring mount forward on the frame a good 3 to 4 inches. I haven't yet seen any flex on them to know if it was worth the work they are going through.

    I have been interested in the 63's, I just don't want to lose load capacity In the bed

    That is a trade off. Flex or load. So far my Alcan's which I had him build around roughly 700lbs of extra weight in the bed have been great for the load and pretty decent for the flex.

    That's why I don't plan on doing Alcans until I know whether or not I will be turning my truck into an expo rig

    Right now I am aiming for the best of both. with the flex that I will gain from the relocate it will be what I am needing until I bite the bullet for custom Alcans. For now the Dakars will do all that I need with the heavy weight I am putting on the bed.

    There are a couple extra leaves combined with thickness, and type of bend. Mine is S curved.

    :facepalm::frusty:

    Did you not read the book I wrote above? You could gain the same flex by putting the Dakar's on your current set up and running an 11" shock.

    Eric, is the info you provided applicable to 1st gens as well? I'm wanting to run a longer shock, but not interested in doing a relocate quite yet.
