Brand of engine oil

Does anyone know what brand oil comes in 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 3.5L new engine?? Bought from a Toyota Dealership brand new

thats way too much. I paid around $50 for 12 quarts shipped on ebay and $20 for 6 filters.

 

I used to pay for the Toyota brand oil but after spending time on the bobistheoilguy site I have been using penzoil platinum and saving money. You can get 5qt bottles at Walley World for under $25.

 

Bargain with your dealer. I get TGMO 0w20 for under $5.5/qt. They have some price flexibility. PP 0w20 is over $5/qt once you buy the extra qt. And TGMO honestly has better VOAs/UOAs. PP 0w20 is really more of a 5w20.

 

How much was shipping? Any question of authenticity?

 

Surprised at some of the prices people are paying for oil.

Mobil 1 runs promotions every few months and you can pick up a 5qt jug for a measly $14. Hell without the discount can get it for $25 at Wally world.

I changed the oil at 1K with Mobil 1 0-20 and Toyota OEM filter and do the same in our Lexus 350RX. I don't drive off-road or in harsh conditions but will, on occasion, tow a 5 x 10 enclosed M/C trailer. Would I really gain much by going to Toyota's 0-20w (or possibly the Penzoil Platinum)? Did not realize that "According to lab tests the Toyota oil is much better than Mobile1" as referenced in post above. What about gas brands? I only fill up with Exxon or Shell (unless they are not available). Oh, WTF, I will probably sell the truck at between 45K-50K so neither oil or gas brands probably mean a damn thing. I guess the next guy can suffer the consequences of me using the "shoddy" Mobil 1.

 

I'd not lose too much sleep over that shoddy Mobil 1. Your engine will probably only go 300K or so on it. Oil today is so much better than what it was just a few years ago that almost any oil properly changed is going to protect the engine. There aren't a whole lot of engine failures attributed to poor oil these days.

 

Ahem... don't remember saying Mobil1 was "shoddy" just not as good as Toyota that's all.... and backed it up with science/lab tests link. WTF?

 

My bad...you did not say "shoddy" but "much better." I can buy the "better" but not so sure of what "much better" means. If oil brands are that critical are gas brands important to you as well? Lab reports do suggest there is a difference between branded gas and "off-price" brands like Kangaroo in our area. When I had a new performance cam put in my Harley the tech asked me afterward if I used Exxon premium. I said yes and "why?" He said he can tell immediately when he breaks down a twin-cam engine if they use budget gas due to the carbon buildup and that Exxon gas seems to leave the least deposits (if any). Again, sorry for enhancing your statement about Mobil 1.

 

No worries - all good. If you look at the test results its pretty obvious .. in real world probably doesn't mean squat, I change my oil 2x a year every year I don't care what Toyota wants to do for me.

Gas ... Sonoco I'm in Philly they make that gas here, at least they used to for many many many years.
Prolly reason for carbon build up - cams retarding timing @ idle = more un-burned fuel (at idle) = carbon build up. I'd probably go for advance timing to improve torque, but that's me.
