2016 Tacoma nose seems too long (purely for styling?)

Thanks for the details. The words "crumple" and "zone" don't appear in that article. Not so easy to find via the terms posted here.

I still think it looks awkward. If you added a metal guard maybe it could replace the plastic grille space and look more balanced. Sticking much further out would be impractical. They probably anticipated such mods.

From that same article, I wonder about this quote:

"...So our approach and departure angles are still best in class for both the standard and off-road models. Our brake-over (sic) angle overall is 29 degrees, with a figure of 21 degrees in back and 31 degrees in back, both best-in class figures..."

Maybe true, technically, but I could see offroad situations where that overhang is a liability, and when you parallel park you'd have to unlearn the older body styles. Enough said! They did what they did already.

You are welcome. Those are more slang words we would use, I don't remember the exact wording I used but it hit that article first try. Think I used front bumper, overhang, pedestrian, safety, Tacoma 2016...something like that. If you just enter "bumper safety Tacoma 2016" for instance, you'll end up with a million hits, and most of the new ones irrelevant to what you are actually searching for.

Personally, hated it when I first saw it, grown on me now and don't mind it too much. If he's right, all trucks are going to have something like that in 2018, so no use sweating it too much if you want something new.

That particular photo of truck & boat has a distorted left side, exaggerating the nose (smaller looking rear tire) but the point is still clear.

Hence the long bed being perfect and the truck to buy....

I imagine that a 140+ inch wheelbase would be a little like trying to navigate a battleship around switchbacks on the trail. :)

I don't offroad, I pull a trailer and the longer wheelbase is again perfect and the truck to buy. If you're buying a $35K truck to take it off road, well.... seems not a prudent thing to do to me o_O

LOL, different strokes. I can't imagine buying a truck that wasn't going to be used for it's job. :)

I've been looking down there between the grill and radiator, and thinking that's a LOT of space to do something useful with. Obviously you don't want to block the airflow to the radiator and condenser too much, or add too much weight hanging off the front (though many people add bumpers and winches), but I might look into sticking my ARB compressor and maybe even a small air tank in there. Or a small box for my recovery gear. There's also tons of room under the headlights. Any clever ideas?

The 2018 Rochester, IN school bus incident shows that crumple zones are useless beyond a certain speed. 45 MPH was noted in that case. The speed range seems to be quite low for the empty space making much difference.
