Possible means of accelerating the process....
    - Call the dealer and let them know you no longer feel safe driving the truck, and follow up with Toyota Corporate
    - Take photos of the rust and post to both dealers Facebook page and Toyotas FB page with date of initial contact. Again mention you feel it is a safety issue

Once this is done it becomes public knowledge that you have been waiting for a year or more. With a deadline approaching this also lets them know publicly you were scheduled for a replacement before the cut off. I would put $20 that you would have a response inside of 5 working days. (Just my opinion)

As long as you have a frame on order they will replace it!!!No expiration if you are on the list.

I called Toyota of Canada today. The lady on the phone confirmed with the dealer, that the frames are on back order. I'm confirmed for the replacement, just a matter of waiting for the frame to come in. That being said, I hate leaving my truck at a shop, for ANYTHING. So, if the frame is really on backorder, I don't really want to push them, since they'll probably lend me a Camry or Corolla, neither will haul 2x4's and flooring very well. ;)

I've been advised that as soon as my frame comes in, I'll be notified. In the meantime, I can keep calling the service manager for an update. :/

    Too few to list.
I happened to look at a truck at a dealership that had a rusted frame and the dealer told me that they can't sell until the frame is replaced. They said Toyota told them two months for a frame. This was last month.

How many of you folks are from the US? I'm just wondering if they are doing the States first... as shipping to Canada is always an extra expense??

Well... the dealer called... my truck is there as I type this... and the service manager is trying to ding me for $500.00 crank seal job, on top of the 2 upper balljoints that I have to pay to have replaced, before they can do the alignment.

Have you already done the ball joints? You can often find complete upper control arms with very low miles here in the classifieds. As for the crank seal it should be a lot easier to access and regular book hours maybe should be adjusted. How much is the job in a fully assembled truck? How is your relationship with the service manager?

She ordered the balljoints today, and I'm 3hrs away from it. (I live in an isolated place... It's the closest Toyota dealer). The truckis there and should be feady by friday.

I'm not even mad about the UBJs.... Just ticked off because she's saying that the crankshaft seal is harder to change out of the truck... When I know full well it's more accessible. To top it off... She wants $500.00 to replace it... When it's a $20.00 seal and should only take them 20mins to do. It's a common issue with these trucks.... And the damn engine is already out!

I'm going to tell her to stuff it... I warned her before I handed her the keys. I've done my research... I don't have money to pay for frivilous stuff... So please be ethical. She still pulls this...

Anyway.... I'll order the seal, try to do it myself... Worse case scenerio, I pay my local mechanic to do it.

Just goes to show.... Nothing is free.

Maybe we should all have coated our frames with Maple Syrup.

I had the leaf spring recall completed last week so today I quickly crawled under truck to have a look.

This CRC coating that was applied in 2015 is basically flaking off the frame. The rear bumper mounts are basically deteriorated.

I am going to do a thorough inspection this weekend but wanted to find out if this would qualify for the frame replacement the way it is ?

It has been rust proofed over the years, the body is mint. Ill let you be the judge on the rest of the frame.

Any other obvious spots I should inspect ?

So far.... Looks food to me. I live in a snowy climate, and salt is used liberally. I personally would coat it myself with multiperpose greaseand then shoot it with rust corrosion inhibitor. (I just use motor oil)

I have been using motor oil and grease for my last 3 vehicles, dating back to 2002. Never an issue, except for this Tacoma. I'd do that first, before tryingto deal with a frame replacement. I have a small hole near the passenger side firewall, and would have patched it myself, had I known the dealer was going to try and milk me for my lunch money. Lol
