Mobtown Offroad Full Bolt On, No Drill Rock Sliders for 2005-2015 Tacoma

Guys with 2008 and older frames, some questions. Got my sliders a couple of weeks ago and got them powder coated and ready for installation.

Tripped across my first issue, the lack of a lip for the beam clamps. Joe has a solution for that so I'll be able to work around this.

Ran into my next stumbling block and want to know if I have another frame uniqueness or what. Mobtown puts relief for the rivets holding on the crossmember, there is a pattern of 4. They also put a hole for a rivet on the under side of the frame.

But I have several more rivets, two on the face and one on the bottom, that there's no relief for them. It prevents my sliders from fitting onto the frame. Toyota rivets a reinforcement plate on the inside of the frame, at least on mine they did. Maybe it's something special they did before going to the frame reinforcement with the lip. My truck is a Sept 2007 production, model year 2008, TRD Off Road, so it could be a transitional thing.

The green rivets I Mobtown designed for, the red circled ones they did not. Just confused here.





Again, green represents a hole that matches a rivet, red is approximately where a hole would need to be.

So what was the actual solution to this?

 

I just got around to working on them this weekend. I had to drill 3 holes in each slider mount to clear the rivets in my frame. I did 7/8" holes and my jig wasn't super precise. The alignment was mirrored side-to-side, so I used the same template on both sides. I got them to fit successfully with only a couple of minor interferences.

Didn't get any photos because I was racing the weather and didn't want to get caught half done if it started raining. Let me tell you mounting bolt-on sliders isn't as easy as I assumed it would be, particularly the driver's side with the fuel tank and brake lines. What a PITA. I got about 1/2 the hardware installed, still need to get the box brackets installed. The passenger's side took about 1/4 as long.

 

Yup. Installing these "NO DRILL" bolt on sliders was a PITA. Missing rivet relief holes. Missing hardware. Missing non-beam clamp solution. My suggestions:
1. Make sure that you have ALL the hardware before proceeding to the install. There's no way to tell once received, because there is no printed hardware list.
2. Prior to ordering, make sure you let Mobtown know whether or not you have the frame "lip" on the trailing inside edge of the frame, so he can send the correct clamp system.
3. Before painting your bare metal sliders, try to get them alongside your Tacoma rocker panels to check for missing relief holes or other possible issues. I didn't. So I had them up and noticed the missing relief holes. Had to bring them down. Drill the holes, repaint the exposed areas and bring them back up.
4. There are a couple of bolts on the outboard side of the frame that are used to hold wire harness brackets that you need to pull off. It's a PITA to try to do while you have the sliders partially lifted into the frame. Instructions never mentioned this.

Once up again, I carefully aligned everything to match existing frame holes and jammed into the frame (tight fit), I found out was missing the square washers. But I already had them in place, and didn't want to bring the heavy mofos down again. So I scrambled to find any/every washer I had in my "nuts and bolts container" that would temporarily work. Mobtown sent the missing square washers and I replaced the flimsy fender washers that I used temporarily. Except for one, because the Box Clamp completely blocked access. I guess it will be fine with a fender washer. It's near the Box Clamp, which is nicely engineered and looks like it could hold up a freak'n elephant.

This was supposed to be a Saturday project. But it's been an ongoing project.

I am still waiting for the non-beam clamp solution.

 

Is there regular cab ones?

 

We have discontinued them. After 75+ sets sold, only 2 were regular cab.

 

Maybe if I wanted a set, you could hook me up maybe? Like a one-off deal?

 

Well, we subcontract our laser and press brake work currently so to run one set of parts is costly. I currently buy 40 to 50 sets of steel at a time to get good prices for DCSB. Let me talk to the company and see if they can throw one set in with our next order.
