My trip out here was worse. Left Oakland at midnight and landed in Indianapolis at 7am. Ew.

I bought some 5 hour energies and I'm making coffee right now.

Aren't you guys supposed to have a certain amount of rest between flights?

Yes and no. When I fly charters then I have 14 hour duty days with a minimum of 10 hours rest (FAR Part 135).
This long trip has been for the owner of the jet which falls under a different set of rules (Part 91) and the rest rules don't apply. I could basically work like horse until I eventually die.
Luckily I'm off the next couple days.

My friend up at the University of North Dakota wants me to fly up there and visit him.... I don't want to go 6-7hrs by myself with no autopilot. Sorry dude, haha

I love how they look. They look like I got ahold of a commercial airliner and slapped a lift on it

Agree, one of the best looking "modern" commercial aircraft IMO. Ours gross out at ~255,000...by far our smallest trunk aircraft.

I am always safe when it comes to my fatigue. I know when to say no. And that's why we have two pilots.

It ends up coming down to companies setting their own policies and most importantly, educating the aircraft owners on why there are rest standards. Most have no idea about them and never think of it. Length of duty day is just one factor. Flying through a circadian low is another issue to consider. I doubt the FAA will set any standards for private operations but there is plenty of guidance for best practices.

    Slightly off topic.

Aviation films/movies, why SO bad? Things like a guy escaping through the lav/shitter to & thru the MLG or showing a wide body interior with 10 abreast seating only for the next shot (showing the outside) & it's some MD80.

Am I the only one slightly annoyed by this?

Doesn't help that I'm watch "Ground Control" as I type.

Rest rule duty limits are a hot topic in our pilot group at the moment. Even tho we are 121, as a freight service, we are different than the pax haulers. Rest rules are still fairly stringent & I gotta say, IMO, ALPA is a major plus in this area.

Hollywood. Not sure why they can't figure it out, they have enough people traveling around on airplanes they should know better. One of the worst was the movie SWAT. What was it, like 2 minutes for the Lear to takeoff from the bridge before being taken out by a car? I can guarantee that car would never catch one of those Learjets.

The show that seems to be closest to reality is Criminal Minds. At least that appears to be accurate for the inside of a Gulfstream although even that set appears slightly enlarged. At least it is reasonably close.

@justinmbowen, if your schedule and wallet allows it, definitely fly for fun. Flying an ILS to minimums in the jet is certainly cool, but flying with your spouse or friends for a burger is also a good time.

Outside of 'work' I fly easily once a week for fun. It really helps keep the sanity after those 14 hour 135 duty days.

Also I see you have ForeFlight, ever heard of Stratux?
