The biggest thing I noticed was it seems idles much better at altitude with 91 octane. And no only two tanks have been other than 91 octane one the dealership put in and another in a small town that only had 85 octane.

I was just giving the OP an idea of what I get for MPG with a stock 2015 DC OR.

@Colorado Tacoma you said you'd put 87 in your next tank. That's what I meant.

Tacomas are notorious gas hogs! Check tire pressure and monitor your driving habits. I am curious about your rpm range though. I don't remember my truck being that high at 75mph but maybe I am just not remembering correctly. I know you said no modifications, but are the tires 265/70/16? I even noticed when I switched to Michelin Defender LTX tires of the same size I lost a bit of gas mileage. Either way, feel comfortable that your Tacoma engine should last quite a long time!

Also FYI off a Toyota web site Not really a big jump in HP or torque but they did test the enigine on both.

The 1GR-FE is the 4.0 L (3956 cc) version, designed for longitudinal mounting in RWD and 4WD pickup applications. It has a 94 mm bore and a stroke of 95 mm. Output is 236 hp (176 kW) at 5200 rpm with 266 lb·ft (361 N·m) of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane, and 239 hp (178 kW) at 5200 rpm with 278 lb·ft (377 N·m) at 3700 rpm on 91 octane. This engine features Toyota's VVT-i, variable valve timing system on the intake cam and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. An updated version of this engine features Dual VVT-i, increasing output to 254 hp (189 kW) and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) on 87 octane and 285 hp (213 kW) and 289 lb·ft (392 N·m) on 91 octane

@Kyitty , Glad it wasn't just me who noticed the mpg loss. I wasn't happy either..Cool you're in Gallatin, we're not far away. Your truck is making the rest of us around here look bad though:). Nice truck man!

I get 14-16 as well, even before the supercharger and 1 inch lift in front. These trucks don't get great mileage for being a v6 unfortunately :/ but it is a truck right?

I live in colorado so I am driving at altitude. My ride to work is mostly interstate uphill and drive home is interstate downhill. I go 75 Because it's the speed limit. And to correct my original post I keep it under 2k as a rule and as far as normal driving I'm closer to around 1.5k. I run right around 2000-2100 at 75. I checked tire pressure and I'm good I forgot to check tire size but it's whatever the stock ones are. Would a tonneau cover help noticably?

I live in Colorado as well and average around 19-21 on of I25 most of the time. Gas mileage drops heading up I70 or hwy 24. Average around town and to and from work at 65 is about the same. Driving from CO to New Orleans and back I average right around 20 mpg keeping it around 75.

In my experience the tonneau cover wasn't an extreme noticeable difference maybe 1-2 MPG with it installed. After 5,000 miles is when I started to see a increase in the mpg. At 75 mph my truck is closer to 2400 rpms and 2000 rpms at 65 mph. I think the mpg really depends on driving conditions and habits. In a lot of city driving where it is stop and go the mpg suffers as expected. If you are cruising on the highway the mpg increases as long as you aren't trying to push much over 65-70 mph. Any time you are driving up in elevation the mpg is going to drop. I live in Colorado Springs and will get around 20 mpg driving south to Walsenburg area or north to Denver. If I head up into the mountains the mpg average will drop.

I live in pueblo and commute up to colorado springs and back. So I'm driving that stretch of 25. I just hate droping below the speed limit with how people drive around here. What's your experience with cruise control on 25? Would I be better off driving it myself to try and avoid all the down shifting?

I usually set the cruise control on at 75-78 when driving to and from pueblo. That strip has many poor drivers and has gotten a lot more traffic recently. I understand not wanting to go under the speed limit when you get passed like your standing still when you go the speed limit. Only by the rest stop and the last stretch coming in to Colorado Springs climbing the hill before the loves station does it down shift. When driving south of Pueblo towards Walsenburg I typically don't use cruise control due to all of the downshifting on every hill.

That's the route I'm driving and I'm only getting 16.5 on that stretch.I'm also setting cruise right at 75

As I mentioned after the 5,000 mile oil change is when the gas mileage started getting better. I would give it time and see since the first 5,000 I was averaging in the 17-18 MPG range. I installed the tonneau cover at around 7,000 miles and it increase was very slight. The drive to New Orleans and back I average 20 mpg on the 2400ish mile trip.

Alright I guess I'll just try to be patient for now. If I was looking for a tonneau cover to help is there one you would recommend?

Covers doent improve gas mileage. The only ones that claim it does are the manufacturers, but independent tests show they don't.

    That being said.

I have the access limited rollup. I like it. Affordable and easy to install.

2 pages of people telling you cruise control is heavy footed and 75mph is too fast for efficient fuel mileage in these trucks and you are still doing it?

    Enjoy your gas mileage.

Tonneau covers come in few different types and a recommendation would all depending on what you use your truck for. There are many posts on Tacoma world with recommendations and the pros and cons of each type. I would recommend you do a search to see what would work for you. I didn't buy the cover to increase fuel economy, but rather protect the items in the truck bed.
