Dealership told me same thing about tonneau cover backordered. They said I can wait another couple months for truck. Toyota informed me they were not on backorder, dealerships cannot install them and dealer made mistake during order. Luckily I had screen shot of managers dealer daily order showing I did ask for a cover but wasn't charged. General manager gave option of any aftermarket cover so picked bakflip f1 (top of the line) free. No leaks and better than factory due to them cutting bed rails and punching rediculous pins into bed sides. Factory cover there is no turning back. Mine is completely removable if I wish. Couldn't be happier.

The same thing happened to me. I thought they could install it but instead they put a rugged gear tonneau cover. The sales manager said that the bed frame is different so they have to come straight from the factory.

The OEM cover on the back of my AC begs to differ

You can't remove the factory cover and get something different? Mine's a LB and came with OEM cover. I was told the opposite... because I ordered a ORDCLB, they had no choice but to include the Tonneau due to some numbers game they were forcing dealers to take them. My plan was to eventually remove and put on another cover.

Please enlighten me on how the OEM cover is a "crap design"? Yes, you have to cut the bed rails to install, but really? It's super secure and mine does not leak once I figured out that the bed rail cleats were in the way of it locking. Plus it looks pretty much like any of the other hard folding tonneau covers, and there has been more than one person complaining that their aftermarket covers leaking. I really can't see any issues with mine. So what they cut the bedrails? You never see them anyway and they are just plastic. I've also had a shell on the truck and recently went back to the tonneau cover. Absolutely zero issues with the shell sitting on those rails, and again, it never leaked, even with the week+ of heavy, steady rain we received in February.

Here are a few of my personal points of why I decided against the OEM cover and went aftermarket. In my case - the Solid fold 2.0.

    1. Bed rails need to be cut. Not only that, with the cover removed, you have these 5 pins that stick out that looks like it will get in the way.
    2. Not easily removed without a tool
    3. Heavy - I remove my cover every other week or so, and the OEM design is cumbersome for that.

    1. With my shell on the truck the pins never got in the way or presented a problem. Plus, as others have mentioned, there are no clamps that get in the way of cargo storage as is the case with other covers.
    2. The entire cover is removed by unscrewing a single 12mm bolt. You unscrew it and the whole cover comes off. That's a huge hassle?!
    3. It's like 80lbs. Hit the gym if it's too heavy for you. Or go with a soft cover, but that won't offer the protection and security of a hard cover.

I'm sorry, but I really think you're reaching with your reasons. It's actually also cheaper than other comparable covers, harder to break into than other aftermarket covers, and I'm covered for 100,000 miles if anything ever goes wrong with it, be it rubber seals deteriorating, broken parts, etc.

I'm glad you like the cover. It doesn't work for me. I find the solid fold 2.0 a far superior design and much easier to use. I like that in a few minutes I can remove the cover and all mounting HW, and you couldn't tell that it was ever on.

Also, weren't you the guy selling your truck? lol

Yep, because of transmission issues. And that's why the tonneau cover is back on, because I sold the shell. No sense in trading it in with the shell on when I could sell it and make some money back. In the several minutes it takes you to remove your tonneau I already removed the bold from mine and have it folded up sitting in the garage. What else you got? Still reaching I see.

You sound pretty immature. The cover doesn't work for me. I don't like it for the reasons I stated. How is that 'reaching' when my reasons are my personal opinion--as I originally stated?

Good luck on your truck sale. Seems strange one would install Clazzios (i'm on that thread too) on a truck they are going to sell. But hey, some of us are good with money, and some aren't .. lol.

you heard the man, if he doesn't like it than it must be junk. lol Sorry I couldn't resist. The factory cover works well for me. I would have preferred a roll up style but just ordering this one with the truck made it too easy. No issues with leaking or anything else thus far.

Delaership eventually offered a swap with someone who didn't want their cover as a custom fabrication job. I turned them down for the bakflip f1. The fab guys figured out the pins are removable but new ones should be ordered for the next install. The bed rails they said would be a slight challenge reseal in them after the swap. I recommend eventually a different cover either color matched or really the bakflip. Unlike the oem cover it flips all the way up to cab, removable with 2 plugs and no tools, lightweight, factory rails still used after relocation kit in box, so strong you can walk on it. And it's low profile and not a big piece of plastic sitting on top of your box. You will find a buyer for the oem though to recoup some funds.

And this seems to be becoming a heated topic. To each their own. But bakflip is better.

No longer heated. I sent the member taking cheap shots at me a PM instead of derailing this thread any more. I figured that would be a better way to continue our 'debate' if he chooses. that conversation doesn't belong on here.

Good call. A cover is a cover. If all these these trucks were identical they wouldn't be the tacos we have today.

Just because YOU think certain features are more of a bargain doesn't mean others hold the same belief. [snip] Just let the people be happy with whatever model they choose, and worry more about yourself!

Well... I've been very satisfied with my OEM cover. Loaded up the back for a couple of trips already and everything stays dry through some Florida thunderstorms so far.

You never see them until you remove the cover. Doesn't change the fact that they opted for a design that requires you to modify the vehicle for installation. Mine came with the OEM cover even though I didn't order it. Dealer included it for free, but if I choose to remove it I will have to replace my bed rails or have it look like I tried some half assed DIY project.

The functionality of the thing is actually nice. Like the quick release action of the handle on 1 side. Bolt on style doesn't bother me, I just leave a ratchet in my truck in case I need to remove the cover on the fly.

Mine works perfectly fine too (yes I have the OEM cover), and it's still a poor design to have to cut your bed rails and put pins in to install the thing.
