Dropped off my truck at the dealer this morning to have the Transmission Fluid level checked... Hope they know what they are doing.

Took Mine in prepared to pay for the service if it was full. They called me this morning and said it was 1/2 quart low......I like my dealership. They could have just filled it and said it was ok. Tipped my service advisor $20

I got a call from the relationship manager at the dealership today and at first he did not want to agree to visually inspect the level but after some discussion he agreed it was the only real way to know if it was full to specification or not and agreed to visually inspect using the correct procedure and overflow port. Taking it back in once a couple parts arrive, not related to transmission, and will report back the findings.

Just got mine back from the dealership service dept. 3/4 quart low. .Performed a health check. no codes or updates. Reset learned values and test drove. At least now I have peace of mine.

Good luck!! I had to send in a nasty review via email as they did not want to check the first time. Service manager called and apologized to get me to come back. Anyway....good luck.

What should I do if my dealer is quote as "on it" as several others have reported here? Show them the service documents others have posted on here or maybe have them call another dealership who is aware of the issue?

    Thanks

After reading all the posts I'm girding my loins for the possible battle at the dealership. I've got that long pause between R/D.

At the very least print up a few of the service records we've posted as proof of this happening. You'll need to arm yourself with some proof and courteous determination.

Picked up my truck last night... The Automatic Transmission Fluid was 1 Quart low.... The dealer filled it up to the recommended level under warranty. Peace of mind now. Just make sure when you make your appointment and when you drop it off that you tell the service adviser that you had opened a case with Toyota Corporate and they are aware of the issue with a number of other Tacoma's with the factory installed Tow package.

Over 200 miles into the new truck. My very first tank average is 14.5 mpg as of this morning with about 190 miles to go on the tank. Doesn't that seem pretty bad? I've been mixing it up with ECT on/off to get a feel for how it handles for both. I even used manual shift mode a few times. It is a DCLBOR so I expected it to be a bit lower, but more like 18 - 19.

Also this morning there was a lot of shutter when shifting. The normal up-shifting continues in non-ect mode, but the shuttering between gears is concerning. It was 28*, so I let it warm up a bit while the frost melted off the windshield. It shuttered often for the first 10 miles or so. Here's my guess to what's happening with the shuttering... So all of these experiences I bet are possibly related to trying to reach the fleet MPG fuel regulations. The truck is forcing it's will to give barely enough power to accelerate after an initial burst in any gear. It must be coded to give only enough gas to keep it running after the up-shift or governor kicks in. Then when it's cold and you try to give it gas, there's not enough fuel being supplied to feed the higher RPMs, creating the "shutters". Then in the up-shift direction right in the middle of a good burst of "normal" acceleration, an up-shift occurs to try to increase MPGs. But you get the bogged down feeling because there is now too much fuel for the sudden lack of RPMs. This is on top of the loss of power from being in too high a gear. It almost feels like it could stall out sometimes.

So, in normal operation mode without ECT on, it's not fun to drive this truck. It's fun to feel like you are in a very cool looking truck, but the joy kinda gets sucked out of the driving experience. It seems like this engine has more than enough capability to avoid all of this.

The tech at my dealer explained the process he used to check my ATF and said it was full. I'd like to think he didn't just make all that up. They did the check as part of pre-delivery and he was very detailed about the markings on the drain plugs and said he knew about the problem from the forums and that he definitely checked it and it was filled to proper level.

    none.... yet!
Mine goes in tomorrow. A big shout out to all of you for raising this issue. I have no current issues i can feel other than an occasional "thunk" which may be U joint related. I plan to file a complaint with corporate prior to my visit to the dealer anyway.
I bought my BR DCSB Sport from the same dealer as the previous two vehicles. The main reason i go back (and possibly pay a bit more for them) is my service team manager. The man is always looking out for his customers and goes to the mat if necessary. Nothing but great experiences. I sent him a link to this thread and he said bring it in, we will run the procedure, and make sure things are right. Thanks again to you all, I've learned tons on this forum, probably the best i have ever experienced!

I have an AT 2016 SR5 with tow package. I have noticed some slipping in the transmission especially when it's cold. I should have probably investigated earlier. I have about 7k miles on the truck. Taking it in tomorrow to the dealer where I bought it in November. If the transmission fluid is low have I done any damage driving it for this long?

maybe, maybe not. I had the same conversation yesterday with Toyota and when
I asked about an extended warranty he refused, no discussion just said it will not happen.
