I'm replacing the JBL system in my 2006 DC. I'm trying to complete this as a budget system (under $900 if possible), but still want performance. Not doing dynamatt or equivalent at this time. Already have Kenwood 470 DD head unit. So far here is the plan:

    MB Quart OA800.4 - 100W RMS x4 (Sonic) - $100
Amp Install Kit (Sonic) - $50
    (2x) Alpine SPR-60C 6.5" Car Audio Component System (Amazon) - $306
    Total - $456.00

    Questions:
    1. Any advice on the above plan? Btw, I like having components front and rear in a 4 door...just need to find a good tweeter mounting location for the rears.
    2. Are there good off the shelf options for baffles/adapters for door speakers, or most make them themselves?
    3. I need recommendations for a single 10" or 12" sub to fit behind the rear seats. I can build a box, but if there is a cheap off the shelf solution I'm open to that route.
    Appreciate the help.

Tweeters in the rear won't do much for you listening up front. I also wouldn't put the tweeters in the doors. Get some long paint stirrers and affix the tweeters to them. Hold them out in so that you can set the stage for you sitting on the driver's seat. If that doesn't make sense, it should after you start moving the tweeters around a little bit. Down low will make the glass/ dash act like a horn.

Thread link doesn't work. Are you saying don't put the tweeters in the front stock location?

The link was to go to: forums/Tacoma garage/audio & video/ general car audio FAQ, by Mr Marv.

I'd look for a mid range driver to fit in the stock tweeter location.

Full disclosure, I don't have a system in my truck. Don't know if there's room for a midrange. I was into car stereo pretty heavily until I had almost $2k of electronics stolen from a previous car. Still like the stuff, just not gonna take that chance again.

Sounds like a solid plan. I've been through many renditions of my sounds system so here is my advice:

    1. I would run a coaxial set in the rear. I'm running a component set in the rear and it is a lot more trouble than replacing with coaxial speaker. I cut a hole in the door panel and flush mounted the tweeter just like the front factory placement. I am running MB Quart's but thinking of changing over to Hybrid Audio.
    2. If you can build the box I would cut out the speaker adapters. Seal the wood (MDF) to prevent moisture damage.
    3. I highly recommend Image Dynamics sub woofers. I had Mrmarv build me a custom dual 10'' sub box with 2 10'' IDQ V.4's and these subs really put out quality sound. They hit the deepest notes and can handle a lot of power.
