    Mostly stuff I built.
The shift knob was pretty easy the upper part of the console comes right off just gently pull up on it. You are removing the whole area of the shift boot cup holders and the front face of the console storage bin. As far as the knob and the boot separating you just twist the chrome ring a 1/4 turn and pull down and it comes loose. Then unscrew the knob. The boot for the park brake lever is attached pretty good to the lever and the upper console so rather than risking messing it up I just lifted and twisted the console so I could modify the shifter boot without messing with it. The chrome ring is held on by one zip tie and a small dab of adhesive. Just snip and pull. I slid the boot wrong side out down the shifter and put a heavy zip tie on it then wrapped it in gorilla tape about 3 wraps to prevent the cut end of the zip tie from eating into the boot in the future. Put the console back down and snapped in place. Got the boot tucked and fitted the way I wanted it. Then I put the jam nut on the shifter applied some blue locktite to the threads screwed the knob down where I wanted it. The jamb nut is a 19mm just ran it up aginst it and tightened down while holding the knob.

Anyone getting a sticky sound in the shifter? I noticed it yesterday at the tail end of driving 200 miles home from the dealer, when shifting in and out of 4th gear. It seemed to be gone this morning. Just part of breaking it in?

One more question, sorry, I am new to MT!
When I am at a stoplight, my RPM will fluctuate from 600 to close to 1000. Is this a normal function?

Squishy. You know, sounds like you're peeling your finger off some adhesive.

I'll try to get a video next time it does it.

Normal. Can be caused by multiple things. Air conditioning compressor cycling on and off, A/c is also linked to defroster so it can still be "on" even if A/C switch is not lit. Also these tacos have an electric brake booster which will cause RPM to fluctuate. Look at it this way, every system in these trucks is monitored by the computer. If something was wrong, there would be a light on your dash letting you know.

After a month of waiting I finally have my 2016 Tacoma six speed manual off-road in quicksand. I have owned four vehicles and all have been manuals. I have to say, manuals are the best.image.jpg

How does it feel, gears are more in favor for grunt work over an AT. Pull hills fine?

The manuals were rare in GA maybe 4 in a 200 mile radius, but none with the QS. So I decided to order and wait...

My 2016 is an auto. I'm very happy with it, though I suspect I would really like a 6MT on-road. Anyway, our 23 year old daughter (who is a very good driver but doesn't own a car, and has mostly driven either my wife's Beetle or her boyfriend's 22RE 4Runner lately, both 5 speeds) recently drove it for the first time. She pulled out of the parking lot onto a two lane highway with a slight uphill grade. Her first comment "this thing is gutless, it feels like a Prius". I replied that it had plenty of power, she just needed to give it more throttle. Which she did, causing it to downshift a few times and accelerate briskly. Then she backed off and it up shifted twice, and then she tipped back into the throttle causing another couple of downshifts. "What??!!" she exclaimed. "This is terrible. This isn't a truck. Automatic transmissions suck. This feels like a Prius." And she grumbled the whole 25 miles home.
