But I eat junk food. That's the beauty of it. As long as you're doing it in moderation, you can fit it in your macros.

I have been doing a modified "keto" for about 6 months (less than 50 carbs a day). No cheats, no refeeds. The first week or so was tough - irritability, headaches, "brain fog," oh yeah, and hungry as f*ck. My performance in the gym definitely dipped and was frustrating for the first two weeks. After my body adapted to the new diet, everything went back to normal. Even my "gains" have gotten back on track. I switched to the diet because I had plateaued in both weight loss and strength gains. Keto has helped me blast through both of those plateaus. I've lost 30 pounds and added almost 60 pounds to my 3 lift total during that time. In all honesty, the diet sucks. No beer (jack and coke zero/diet coke isn't all that bad...), no rice, no bread, can't even eat certain vegetables. But, I really wanted to hit these goals I had set for myself and I have done that and more. In my opinion, the sacrifice has been worth the reward - YMMV.

Don't you get tired of tracking everything each day? I do IIFYM too, but I eat the same stuff everyday just so I don't spend all day entering info on myfitnesspal or adding up nutrition labels. I just set a diet that hits all my #'s and follow it for a few months.

A lot of people hate eating the same shit each day, but it doesn't bother me. It would be nice to just wing it everyday, but I know I'd get sick of entering in numbers and looking up foods everyday

That "moderation" thing is my problem. If I eat a cookie, I'm gonna eat a whole sleeve of chips ahoy and milk.

I've done both. It's not that bad entering your food. It takes 2 seconds. It only sucks when you go out to eat, especially around blue ridge, because those foods aren't on there so you just have to guesstimate

And what about shopping for food? Do just get a shit-ton of stuff and mix and match everyday? It just seems like a lot of work. To me, it's just simpler to eat the same thing everyday. I have the same grocery list, prep the same meals, etc...it's an art lol

I've been wanting to do a keto diet for a while now. What benefits did you notice after the first couple of weeks and your body adapted?

well imo the better you get at it, the less you have to measure stuff out. For me right now, since I'm only trying to loose a total of around 15 more # of fat by july its not as critical to be EXACT. The closer i get to the date though , the more ill start to watch and calculate it out as my goal is to be large and lean.

I think EVERYTHING depends on what and where your body composition is at.
From what i have seen, the leaner you are the harder it is to survive of keto type diets. The higher your BF % is the easier. I think it's kinda obvious though

I know I said I don't eat the same thing everyday. That's not entirely true. I will have one different meal then I'll have my go to foods to finish off my macros. Also sometimes my Monday meals will look similar to Wednesday and Tuesday will be similar to Thursday... You get the picture. I don't log on the Myfitnesspal 5x a day everytime I eat. I'll either plan out my day in the morning and log everything I want to eat or I'll sit down at night and log everything I've eaten so far to try to figure out what else I need to eat.

I don't count all year long. I started counting again last week. But also I've counted so much that I've become good at counting portions and I just try to guesstimate everything and I do fine with it.

:rofl:That's my problem too. I can usually say no to stuff but if I ever give in I can't just have a little bit. Like this past Sunday my buddy invited me over after our softball game because his wife just made some brownies. I said fine and thought I could eat just one little brownie to be nice. I ended up eating 3 giant brownies with about 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream :anonymous:

Hi my name is Jon. I am addicted to sweets.

My problem is I'd either end up eating like 1500 calories per day or like 5500 calories per day. I guess I'm not a good guesser. I still weigh out all my food and everything, but if I had to wing it, it'd be a disaster. Also, I get super anxious on days I wing it. Like if I decide to have a cheat meal, I'm always thinking like, "fuck, I know I consumed way too much fat today and I know my protein numbers didn't get hit and it's already like 11pm! I'm fuckkkked!" To alleviate all that, I just stick with my same, boring 6 meals per day.

I did keto for like 3 weeks and hated it. Granted, I never got out of the beginning stages, so my body never adapted. I did, however, lose fat in those 2-3 weeks. No carbs just ins't for me....if I can eat carbs and get the same results, I'm not gonna deprive myself for shits and giggles. That being said, I've never had an issue with losing weight on a higher-carb diet, so I've never really "needed" to try keto...I just did to see what it was about

The most significant benefit was weight loss. I lost 9 pounds in the first two weeks. I know most of that was water weight, but it was still encouraging to see those numbers on the scale. After the initial transition, my metabolism went in to overdrive. My mood and energy levels sky rocketed, and I was sleeping much better at night.

Very true. Zero pump, unless I took pre-workout. My workouts focus on low rep, heavy weight SBD, and some high volume accessory work afterwards, so I never really got that much of a pump anyways.

ETA: just discovered this thread today and looking forward to joining in...

I'm not concerned with weight right now. I'm actually trying to bulk. I guess I will stick to eating normal for now and maybe try keto when I start cutting.

I think I was in ketosis for a few days and I saw one of my buddies and he told me I was looking flat and small. The very next day I said fuck this and I ate a million grams of carbs.

Y'all are talking about diets, and here I am about to finish my 2nd shrimp roll-up, trying to decide what kind of sand which I'm about to make to finish up my meal.

Haha! I could tell by the pictures you previously posted that our goals are a little bit different. I am less concerned with aesthetics and more concerned with getting strong as f*ck. If I look a little flat but still put up big numbers, that's ok with me. But, we are all in the same boat here. Lifters are lifters - period - whether bodybuilding, powerlifting, crossfit, etc.
