Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
OP ... its hard to put into words why a Toyota full size and/or especially mid-size Tacoma's are so magical.

I have had several Fords (F-150 & F-250) and 2 Chevrolets (no diesels) and over 10++ Toyota (small, midsize and full size) pickups.

Toyotas just run and run with no or very limited problems and stay "tighter".

The resale is excellent and I have had very few problems with Toyotas.

OP, good luck ... and drive all of them (look at resale) and you pick what suits your needs the best.

Welcome to TW! Tacomas are sporty, fun, and the best looking truck on the road. Make it your one of a kind by modding it the way you want. It will run and run and when your ready for another the value retention is unbelievable. Off-roading?...It will take you places you can't imagine. Towing....aahh...not so much.... But they are simple and make you happy when you're behind the wheel.

My best attempt to answer your question.

    Good luck!

For me, this truck is perfect. If I were you, I would buy a full sized (probably chevy). It just seems better for someone with a family.

    Hey Brent,
I just recently downsized from a full size to a Tacoma and I have the same tow/haul/family profile as you. Why did I do it? Here are my 3.5 reasons:

    1. Economical. Gas isn't crazy expensive at the moment, but it will be. I wanted better mileage. Also, because of where I travel I never get more than 30k miles out of a set of tires. I'm hoping a lighter truck will improve on that number. Time will tell.

    2. Resale. Tacomas hold their value to an almost ridiculous degree. If my overall cost per mile can be drastically lowered thru better mpg and resale, that has a pretty significant impact on the budget.

    3. Reliability. There's always guys having the "which truck is best" argument, but after 20 years of working around some pretty rough terrain (quarries, mines, pipelines, etc) there is absolutely no question in my mind. The Nissan and Toyota brands hold up better. Period. Others may say different, but Iv'e seen it too many times to even question it now.

3.5 They look great, are fun to drive, and are just a flat-out cool ride. Not what I use for decision making, but when the other reasons all line up, it's a bit of frosting. Coolness only gets a half-point, but if I'm to be honest it did have a little bit of sway on the decision.

Hope whatever you get works out for you. If you spring for a Tacoma like we all did, come back and visit. Lots to learn here.

    Do you like vagina?
Do you like, the thought of being cooler?
Do you like great gas mileage,jk?
Do you wanna be a better person?
    Do you wanna go places?

If you answer yes to four out of the five questions above, you should by one.. Why? Because that's what you'll get more of when owning a Tacoma.
