3 year warranty ending, take it to the dealer?

Is it worth taking it to the dealer to have them "go over" the truck before the warranty expires?

I usually do my own maintenance on it but my SO is strongly suggesting I take it to the dealer.

    thoughts?

Kinda like going to the doctor right before your health coverage expires, lol.

I guess it couldn't hurt...take it in for a service or something (30k miles?) if it's about due for one and ask them to go over everything.

Even if you do all your own maintenance, can't hurt to have the dealer give it a thorough once-over in case there may be something they'd be willing to cover.

As long as you are willing to pay for the hourly charge which is probably at least 100 an hour. They don't work for free. You are going to spend several hundred dollars for nothing IMO.

I think it would be a rare dealer that would honestly do this just because your warranty is expiring soon. Are you having any issues?

Ask your SO if he/she/it is willing to pay for said checks.

If I was a dealer I would do it for the going rate and check every nut, bolt and screw... of course this would take many hours. I would not do this for free.

$$$$$ and not worth it. Might as well give the dealer a blank check.

If you have a warranty-able item that is not working correctly, now is the time to go.

If everything works well, they aren't going to do anything for free.

If they do offer to do a free pre-warranty expiration for free, you're going to get a list of PM items as long as your leg. None of which will be free, all of which will be 'urgent'.

I'll go out on a limb and guess you're not a big DIY'r? That's ok, but my suggestion is now is the time to be shopping for a quality independent mechanic.

I would just keep up with the service that the manual requires and pay for the items you can't do yourself. That way the items you do yourself you know they were done right or better yet done at all.

my dad had a 2002 Grand Marquis that was 100% garaged and driven less than 2000 miles per year. In fact when I bought it from the estate it was 10 years old and had 15k on the clock. It looked like it had just come off the showroom floor. He took it to the Mercury dealer to get the battery replaced. He was concerned about the rubber components so he said to replace all the hoses and do any maint they thought was necessary. That battery cost him $1300.

If something does go wrong after not taking the truck in you will have hell to pay. Happy wife happy life.

That being said, zero chance I would pay the dealer to "look" at my truck when nothing is wrong with it just to suffice my wife.

The dealer is going to find 'filthy fuel injectors,' bad batteries, and a whole host of other issues (naturally none of which are covered by the warranty) if you take it in and say 'please check it over before my warranty expires.' ;)

I understand keeping the wife happy, but this is a no-go. As someone suggested, go out for a nice dinner. In my house, if a car doesn't work, it's my job to fix it, period. The details of warranty, who/where, how much, the wife cares not a bit - just that I return her a functioning vehicle ASAP. In exchange, she provides me clean clothes on a regular basis, so I can live with that. :amen:

I would only take the truck in if there's something specific you think is wrong and you want addressed/documented. That way you may have some recourse, but not much, if something fails at 36,500 miles.

Remember that you do have the longer 5yr/60k warranty on the powertrain that is still in effect, but even so I would think a powertrain issue probably would've shown up by now. Enjoy your truck!

They may be good people, but most are out to make money and will do it at your expense IF You Allow them to.

You need to let her take care of her things and leave yours up to you. Man up and go with Your feelings on this.

Check your A.I.R. valves before 36k warranty runs out, costly repair when they fail and not covered after 3/36k. Only other thing I would say is if a TSB applies to your truck that you haven't had done go ahead and have it taken care of.

As far as I know the Tacoma A.I.R. ( Air Injection Valves and pump ) have not been covered under warranty.

Tundra has been covered, Tacoma not so much.

I took mine in early for its last scheduled Toyotacare service to make sure there was time to fix anything they found. I didn't really expect them to find anything that I didn't point out (even if there actually was something wrong) and they didn't. If there are any unresolved TSBs now is the time to make your case. And, in my opinion, if there is anything that is bothering you about the truck now is the time to formally document it for potential future "out of warranty" consideration.

They have to at least be covered under the 3/36k, I know they are not under the 5/60k as I had mine fail at 53k.
