Have they said exactly what is going to be happening for those that wish to use benefits for an aviation degree? Full shut down or just selected school will be available?

my understanding of it so far is the va will no longer pay for your private pilot license. and will only allow up to 20,000 dollars a year towards flight training under montgomery gi bill. most schools will probably stop doing flight training for the gi bill because what they have set forth is unrealistic in terms of what they want changed.

Thats a shame! I wonder how long that will last for with a lot of service members that plan to get out and obtain a pilots license. I know that there is a lot of moving parts with the VA especially with the VA Scandal that still on going right now. Hopefully for my sake that they don't stick with that plan for to long!

yeah some senator from ohio is leading the charge on it using the budget cuts guise. 4/5 va funded pilots get jobs and the citizens get their money back in taxes by more than 8 % of the total we used.

With that type of success rate you would think they would try to push that program harder! But that would make to much sense. Sounds to me like someone that might be on their way out of the office wants something to say they done and had a "POSITIVE" effect on the economy. 1 step forward 10 steps backward. Perfect!

it will have such a huge negative effect on the economy. with this huge pool of vietnam pilots retiring and not alot of guys coming in. the insurance companys dont help either. Hai and other organizations have been trying to have the bill redone but it just got anuck theough the house under some other bill.

I see a lot of these schools and programs possibly drying up. I feel bad for those that will have to pay out of pocket for the possible spike in tuition due to the VA shutting the program down. They will have to get the money their loosing from service members to pay the bill, instructors, etc.. Then like you said the shortage of new pilots coming, that will take a toll on airline companies. Everyone is going to get screwed over!
