I am doing the same thing. But it seems as though the trans will engage initially and then again a second later.

Odd. If that were true, I'm pretty sure all here would have mentioned it that
spoke of problems. I can't recall anyone that complained about erratic shifting
saying they saw any lights on the dash.

Tried an experiment this morning; In drive, there IS a vibration (Rumble strips) coming to a stop sign.... in NEUTRAL: this NOT... therefore it MUST be the trans...

This is not a habit . This is the way we are suppose to operate our trucks . Always come to a complete stop before selecting the opposite direction
OK , its a good habit to follow if you haven't been doing it :D
Do you know if the techs reset your adaptive learning memory before they released the truck back to you ?

Dropped off last night. I wanted them to drive it this morning since it's the last day of sub 30* weather we're gonna get here in NY.

The ATF was checked pre-delivery a week ago and I was told it was good. Up-shifting too soon, losing power and shuttering during shifts at all gears, which is noticeably amplified when cold.

My father-in law owns a Camry and he had the shuttering in his Camry a couple years ago and described his symptoms exactly like mine. The dealer went thru all the normal stuff, ATF check, and 2 computer updates. Eventually they found it to be the Torque Converter. Haven't heard that mentioned here, but i wonder if some of these trucks have faulty torque converters. If so, I still think the computer needs an update for better shifting patterns. But the shuttering may be a separate issue.

I'm really not experiencing any of the low ATF issues mentioned. I considered fighting with my dealership to have them check it just to be sure, However, my dealership provides a lifetime power train limited warranty. If the transmission ever takes a shit, its on them to fix or replace it. I think I'll just wait and see if a TSB comes out.

lifetime is awesome! I think the drive train is covered
for 5 years without any extended warranty.

yeah mine too. toyota of murfreesboro has a lifetime warranty with all of their new vehicles, free of charge (or built into the price). you just have to keep up with all maintenance records. i'm still determining the best way to track doing my own oil changes and have it be proof enough to keep up the warranty.

Yeah, its definitely a nice perk. That could be tricky proving that you changed your own oil, I could see some dealerships fighting that to get off the hook. To avoid any potential problems, I'll have my oil changed and all maintenance done by dealership.

The transmission was built this way (to have a pause) when shifting from park to drive,or drive to reverse & back! The problem is most of Dealers don't even know this. I never have a problem with this because my dealer explained this to me the day I picked up my truck. If I'm in reverse and shift back to drive I wait a few seconds before I try to take off. No Problem!

    @gearcruncher,

I am directing this to you since you appear to be the one individual who actually understands, and has actual knowledge of, the low ATF issue.

Supposedly, my truck had a "memory reset" of the transmission control module after it was discovered the ATF was ½ quart low.

I encounter the "rumble strip" sensation when slowing to stop. The sensation becomes very noticeable below 25 mph. This has occurred since the truck was new. Another way to explain it is that it almost feels like the truck has very aggressive M/T tires, when slowing to stop, which it doesn't.

I am not a mechanic, but I'm wondering if low differential fluid (front/back/both) would cause this sensation.

I sent a letter to the president of Toyota Motor Sales for the U.S. about all the issues I'm having with this truck, and I am very curious what excuses he will make in his response, assuming I receive one.

Call back from dealer. Basically all they did was hook it up to computer and make sure it all was to spec per computer and they state that everything is normal. I didn't get a straight answer when I asked if any tech drove it and decided it was supposed to drive like that. Just the by the book response, everything is normal. They apparently called Toyota Customer Service to report it and said I have a case open already and I can call them if I have anything more. mmmkay
