I just got back from the dealer where I am been told that they have to replace my computer after I installed my Supercharger. What suppose to be a 30 min re-flush turned into 5 miserables hours on the phone. Two weeks ago they did the TSB on my transmission. Now when they tried to re-flash the ECU the computer would not recognize and (or) accept the new hardware. TRD re-flash was designed to work with the old set up only. You can see that, there is not much communication between the two branches. Now, I have two choices:
#1- remove the supercharger and I can keep the new smooth ride of the transmission
#2-keep the supercharger and go back to the old -jumpy- transmission.

    The problem is that=
#3- once you change the setting with this computer you can't go back and re-flush it again to the old set up.
#4- all new computers that Toyota would send out- they all, all ready been revised and upgraded with the new TSB.
Sooo, My only luck was that, the dealer _a VERY NICE guy was able to locate a computer that was not upgraded all ready.

My warning is that- before you go ahead and spend $3800 on that charger,, make sure that the dealer can make it work.
TRD said that this is the first time they have this problem, they realized that there is a problem and that is going to take some time before they will have a fix. Good luck with your decision.

Tell me about it. I will have the charger and hopefully they will have a fix to problem by the end of this year. Wonder if the the box that Gadget sells -APX-would fix the problem with the transmission ???

Have the dealer do the transmission tsb then go get a piggy back and take your truck to a tuner, and have them tune it. It will void your warranty but im my opinion would be worth it.

This is really bad news. I had the Trans TSB performed last week and my SC ships this week. My dealer verbally confirmed that the install would be no problem. I'm going to get it in writing.

It is a brand new truck. I don't have enough guts to do this. And even if was the case,, these is north east not south west. Most of dealers don't even know what a supercharger is. I would go thru Hell before I get it done right. Thank's for sugestion.

Yea, East Cost. Surprisingly the guys, there, they really are trying to help me. But there is no comunication between the TRD and Toyota tech divission. Now they just called me back and told me that they will have to get it from somewhere out west. The one they had here is not good either.

Just run the truck how it is now for awhile. There are not many new supercharged tacoma's out there. They will figure out all the bugs sooner or later and you will be able to get it fixed. Just go drive the hell out of it for the mean time. And is the tranny really that bad? Bad enough to where you would be willing to take the SC off for a smoother ride? I would be willing to sacrafice ride quality for 100 extra hp...

either i misunderstand the issue or you do.

my understanding is since the trans TSB has been performed, the ECU reflash for the SC cannot be performed. no ECU SC reflash=engine not performing to it's capability (i have no idea exactly what happens without the ECU reflash but i can't imagine things being close to optimal without it).

Woops I read the original post wrong. I thought he could reflash it back to the original SC tune without the transmission TSB tune.

Well, looks like we both got a different guy on the phone. I call them also and they told me- that there is no reason the Supercharger would not work on 2010. The guy was clueless about any problems may exist..The guy told me that Toyota does not always tell them when they are doing a change. There is like a small competition between the two branches. One try to put out more HP and the other try to save on gas, be more efficient and so on. Unfortunately we (I am)are the losers here. So typical of a big corporation.

At this time my truck is sitting at the dealer and I am at his MERCY. I called Corporate, TRD and there is nothing any of them can and (or) will do. They have hard time to locate an ECU that is not been re-flashed. This is the only way I am going to be able to keep that charger on top. I don't mind going back to old set up (regarding transmission). TRD is going to try to find a cure may be some day but in the mean time I will try to be patient. I am pretty lucky that my other half is more then patient and she even feels bad for me. Money is her last concern. She wants to see me happy.

Wow this sucks. Like the guy before said, you can't install an older ECU and run a piggy back. Any products to tune to your exact specs?

At this time they have hard time to locate even an old ECU. The only product that would tune it would be the APX but this is another $1300-1500 that I am not ready to spend. Hope my experience will save other guy the hassle.

I also spoke with Allan Phillips and he can't, at this time, help with the 2010. I don't know about your 2009 though.

Did you ask your dealer how is he going to deal with the re-flush issue ??? I am curios. May be he knows something that mine doesn't.
I know that it does not work in 09 but just curios,
Do you have any ideea how involving is the APX box ???. Is this a -plug and go ??. I try to talk directly with URD but looks like they are pretty busy. At this time I really have to consider all my options. Thanks. Hope your experience will be less painfull then mine.

i have a feeling my dealers service advisor talked to one his techs and the tech said "yeah i've installed them thar TRD superturbos befar." and called me back and told me they can do it no prob, 10 hours=$850. i have little faith anymore.

i have PM'd the guy, can't recall his name, on here that had eventual success with his 2010 SC dealer install, but have yet to hear back from him.
