I thought that too but my phone works fine in my wifes 2014 carolla, and worked in my 2014 tacoma. What did entune do to make stuff not work as they provided a newer system? Thats a step backwards as far as i am concerned. Its like buying a car with no windshield wipers....but it used to have them.....

Kind of a grey area.. Entune versions prior to release may test a certain amount of phones, but as you know, new versions of the OS, updated bluetooth stacks, etc.. Can and will change compatibility.

Entune needs to do running changes in order to keep up with new phones coming into market, but it seems they are a little slow to do that...

Just FYI, I was having a lot of issues with entune and messaging with my Verizon S6. I just got upgraded to Marshmallow OS yesterday and today had an Entune update that downloaded. Since then, I've had zero issues with getting and reading messages from my phone.

After reading all the reply's in this thread it seems that when it comes to mostly iphones and entune they do not play well with each other. Why Toyota can't get this right is beyond me but I'm more then disappointed with the performance of the entune "premium" system and the money I spent for nothing! I'll admit my so called smart phone a iphone 4s is next to the stoneage but so what all the more reason there should be no problem with this vaulted entune system from reading out my text messages each and every time I receive one and show them when I stop. Instead half the time I see I'm receiving a text message from X and I wait and wait and hear nothing! Then the next text message I receive bang no problem I hear it and when I stop I can read it. What up with that I can't and then I can it's crazy!!! I've spent to many hours on stupid "fixes" such as un-pair your phone and re-pair it and check that your phone say show notifications BS. I've concluded what the problem is that neither Toyota of Apple want to admit it's either one of their problem so that the long and short of it is your screwed! Until Toyota comes out with firmware that fixes the problem with entune receiving messages from iphones or iphone does the same with entune your at best a up the creek without a paddle. I don't see Apple fixing it and I don't blame them but I do blame Toyota that can't seem to be able write firmware that works with a iphone. You sure don't read about many Android users having the same problems so what up with that?

I give up! Remind me to never spend extra money on any Toyota entune system again because it isn't worth a sh*t in my book.

    Isn't marshmallow for Android?

I have a new iPhone SE and a Samsung Note 5. Do not get text messages from the iPhone, but do with the Note 5.

Here is what worked for me:
    1. Click "Forget this device" (the toyota connection) from your Bluetooth settings
    2. remove the phone connection from your entune head unit
    3. Go through the pairing process again.
    4. Be sure to select show notifications
    5. Here is the important part---DO NOT populate the quick contacts on the entune display. Either switch it to two-screen display, or change the quick contacts to clock or eco. Just dont use them
for me works like a champ after hours and hours of research and tinkering.

    LOL, unexplainable update.....
I systematically started adding things to my setup, such as enabling the entune app, then syncing contacts, then adding favorites, AND THEN adding a quick contact....then another. I now have two quick contacts displayed on my three-way screen and the system is still working flawlessly (minus the ability to respond to messages through entune which has never worked for me).

So it must be something with the sequence of doing it, but it appears that you can get it to work with the above process, one step at a time. And I made sure to receive a text after EACH step.

I am going to go out and try this - my messaging was working (outside of replying) until I changed my home screen and added quick contacts!!! I didn't realize this was what stopped me from being able to have my messages read out loud or shown on screen!

Well I'll be surprised if just deleting your quick contacts allows you to now hear your messages while moving and read when stopped with using an iphone. But hey stranger things have happened!

Something tells me the iphone and the entune firmware just don't want to play well with each other and now, to our bad luck both Apple and Toyota are in a pissing match as to who's firmware needs a patch. I will bet you it's a loose, loose, situation with these two companies because if you call Apple they will say it isn't our fault call Toyota and they will say the same. I can muck with my system and have it sometimes work and other times all I get is a on screen prompt that I am receiving a message from so and so and it will never read the message or display it when stopped. I don't think simple solutions like un-pairing your phone and re-pairing is the answer that we have to this iphone problem much less eliminating your quick contact list. If someone can come up with a contact number to someone with a brain at Toyota or Apple that has a permanent fix I wish they would share it with us all.

It worked - then stopped working a couple of days later - it seems to be the quick contacts that are the culprit. I am just going to take them out.

I don't have any quick contacts and mine doesn't work. It stopped working when I upgraded to Marshmallow.

Deleted my iPhone from the entune system and then re-paired it and followed that by making sure notifications where checked on in the iPhone Bluetooth under Toyota connection. So far so good the system received and read my messages while moving and displayed the text when stopped. I didn't add any quick phone contacts, yet, I figure one thing at a time. Hopefully there won't be any problems but still I think Toyota really dropped the ball with their firmware for users with iPhone's. Proof of that is the fact 'scripted' replies in messaging are unavailable to users with the iPhone but Android user no problem. That's crazy!

Ok - I can confirm that the Quick Contacts are the issue as well. I was able to add 1 Quick Contact, and everything still works. But adding a Second Quick Contacts, breaks the SMS from working without having to re-setup the Messaging each time the radio turns on...Waiting for an update from Toyota...

Something tells me you, I, and allot of other people with iPhones are going to have a very long wait on Toyota doing anything!

I received this sweet note from Toyota after I sent them a complaint about their Entune firmware or software not playing well with Apples iPhone's.

"Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We are very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the Entune system in your 2016 Toyota Tacoma. We apologize that some of the functions with the Entune system and your iPhone are limited.
We do thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Our vehicles have achieved a well-deserved reputation for design and craftsmanship, and we know that there are high expectations for any Toyota vehicle purchased. Kaizen, or continuous improvement, is in Toyota's DNA, and we are always improving our products based on comments such as yours.
Toyota respects your opinions on the matter, and we have documented your comments at our National Headquarters, where they remain available for review from the appropriate departments.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.
    Sincerely,"

Some functions "limited" please give me a break! My advice to anyone with a iPhone who is having any issues with it linking up with your head unit and the "limited" functions you have to endure is to complain to Toyota often and loudly!

I went to the dealer this afternoon and confirmed the issue with three other trucks. The service manager agreed there was an issue and was going to alert his Toyota rep. We'll see what happens. His guess it'll be part of an entune update.
