Send her to me for a backpack trip. ;-)
Seriously, if she could hike with some other experienced gals, it might help.

She really just needs more trail time. I backpack a lot more than she does, and I extend my experience where applicable. She would benefit greatly from another gal hiker though, especially one with your experience.

We do have a 3rd permit for August to do Onion Valley to Whitney, if you're interested :) August 4-9.

You can do Whitney the back way via a couple different trails. Onion Valley or the longer way via the High Sierra trail from the west side.

180 days, exact. Ask me how I know :) I got my permit to do Whitney this year in August by coming in from the north at Onion Valley. 48 miles one-way, but it sure beats that lottery. Good luck with Half Dome though.

Gotcha. I couldn't remember exactly so I quoted the website. I remember having to fax my request 6 months to the day or something. I was counting the days and hours lol. Even spoke with the ranger who processes the requests. Point is, you have to be all over it or play the lottery game. I had to do the lottery when my lady & I went on our Big Pine Lakes trip. She had to pull a piece of paper from a box/bowl....it turned out that it was the Number 1. So we were helped first and got our permits! that was super cool.

Yeah the Whitney lottery is old school and requires a fax. Other entrances to Whitney from the "other" side are done online and you can sit and refresh your computer at 8:00am PST 180 days before right on the button and watch the available slots open up. You gotta be quick though, as they go instantly. It took me 4 days to get mine because they get snatched up in the first 2 seconds. Sometimes later in the day some get released back into the pool, and that's how I got mine.

Change your point of entry and exit. Also mid week entry is less demand.

If you need suggestions, let me know!

If anyone has a sports chalet local to them they just announced they are closing for good and going to sell everything over the next month or so.

Local AZ guys the one in Scottsdale was stacked with goodies when I went in Saturday but not heavy discount yet.

They announced 10% for now, but expect that discount to increase this week. The local one by my house had lines that were 1 hr plus for the measly 10%- can't imagine what it would be like once it gets closer to the end of the month. All stores should be closed by month's end.

The one by me is always empty. The few things I want are weird items or really high end one off things that people in my area don't know what they are.
