I have to think that during the next refresh they are going to do something to change the style of the grill.

I'm not bashing. I'd happily put either one in my driveway. I just noticed the grille (that seems to get a LOT of attention) was pretty similar shape-wise.

It's a combination of aerodynamics and an opening just large enough to let sufficient air through the radiator.

Its just the current style grill that everyone is doing. These things change over time as each car company tries to look "modern".

I think some of this all goes back to the 2005 or so audi waterfall style grill that merged the upper and lower grills. Then others followed. The fords all go back to the design of the Db9 grill if you ask me. Which itself was a modern take on the db5.

Then you have the crash standards for pedestrians that require a change to front end design across all makers. That is why there is very little behind those huge grills for 5 or 6 inches.

Then there is the fact that people have been buying cars with "agressive" design language more than others for the last decade. With trucks you can watch the grill and lights slowly morph into something made to look bigger and tougher from the front. But that also goes with the increase in size.

I think that there might be a corner being turned a bit with some of the new cars coming out, and that the new tesla design with no grill might change the asperation design market. For now we just get alot of cars and trucks that look like they are angry.

Oddly the tacoma is a weird outlier because of the vestigial lower grill still. Thats why people talk about its "nose" and not its "mouth" when grill complaining.

My question is what do you call the little grill gill things around fog lights or on every new toyota car?

Looks similar, at least in the grill. I will admit that the new trucks looked ugly in pictures when I first saw them, but if you see them in person they look a lot better. I felt the same way when the new WRX came out, thought it was hideous but then seeing in person it grows on you.

HOW? Anyhow, both cool trucks. I think the grille looks great on the 16' taco. Not sure what all the commotion is about. Still, same shape as a transit grille. And a veloster. Kind of.

Bloated and sick? New 3rd gen does look better in person IMO. I'd drive one.
