It was up on Dakota Ridge. It was quite the nature tour. Saw a well fed coyote running around on Green Mountain, that fella on DR and three deer in Matthews Winters.

17 mile ride, 3400 ft elevation. Haven't ridden in a month... I'm so tired I actually took the elevator up to my apt afterwards!

If it's gone to cartridge instead of canister for the filter, it sounds like it's the same as the new 4 Runners. My mother got a 2015 November before last. They had it out last summer and it was going to roll over 10k while we were on our trip, so since it hadn't been changed yet I said we should do that before we left the house (after getting over the fact that it was a 10k first change in the first place - I'd have done it at 5k anyway). Well everything is supposed to be free through the dealer, so I called Pederson. They were booked. Ok, we need to at least do the oil before we go, that can't be that hard we'll just do it here. Then I found this: o_O Two bolts and an access port in a skid to get to the drain plug. 7 bolts and a push pin to remove the front skid cover, plus another four bolts to remove the actual skid under that to get to the oil filter. Then the cluster of getting the cartridge out, replacing o rings, blah blah. GOD DAMN I JUST WANT TO CHANGE THE OIL. :annoyed: Said fuck it and managed to get it into Pederson first thing the morning we left and they got the entire 10k service done.

I don't know if anyone has done a write-up yet for the 3rd Gen Tacomas like that, or how different it might be (I'd hope fewer bolts and plates).

The only people who drain the tranny instead of the oil are the ones who aren't paying attention. Are the plugs in the same general area? Yes. But I know next to nothing about mechanical, I'd read that caution before I did mine the first time, and yet when I got under there I was like 'how do people fuck this up?' Tranny pan vs oil pan. Very different. Very obvious even to me. :notsure: Again, I don't know how different the 3rd Gens are compared to 2nd Gens, because I haven't looked at one.

Neither have a seen a manual for one, but it shouldn't be that hard to find the oil capacity specs. On my 2nd gen manual it's in like three places, including the back cover. I suggest you verify before you touch it, because unless you put one of those Fumoto valves on your drain pan (I have one laying around here I've never used), you aren't going to be draining just a little if you overfill.

@2016spicytaco You may want to look at some of the threads in the 3rd Gen forum on this. Like this one: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oil-filter-2016-tacoma-v6.396264/#post-10962157 If it were my problem I'm kinda liking that plastic to metal part swap idea...

I wish. Last night (or the night before) was the first reported rattler bite on a dog at Matthews Winters.

Tell them to bring a store out west (golden/lakewood). I'd shop there (same with Bass Pro), but I have no interest in dealing with I-25 to go shopping.

I use to work in new construction sites in so cal and install water, sewer and storm drains. So we where the ones that came in right after the grading was done. So we find them every where hiding under our equipment. To many close calls.

Been searching around. Figure this is the perfect place to post this. My gf and I are doing a roadtrip from Boston end of May. I was planning on finding a discreet campsite in the Keebler pass area. Any other recommendations? Only out there for 3-4 days. Want discreet with hiking nearby. Only have small lift and tires so no crazy wheeling sadly. But would like to hit something. Thanks!

Big tires, big lift, Lots of stuff's.
That's funny in going to Boston the 4th of May to pick up a truck. Well hopefully as long as every checks out while I'm back there. I hope so because I only bought a 1 way flight.
Any way Keebler pass is a fun area, I can ask my buddy for some hikes around there he lives not too far from there, you may experience some snow still up there with these late storms we are getting.
