So, my dealer keeps sending me these letters trying to buy my 2012 tacoma back. I thought the deal was crap and kept throwing the letters away. Today I got another letter and said my truck fits a catagory they are trying to replenish on used vehicles. They said they'd give me 20% over the book value and give me the friends and family discount on a new one. My truck is a 2012 TRD sport 4x4 with JBL nav and entune. 2 inch lift, KO2 BFG's and a Bakflip. The kbb trade in value is 25,800 and private party value around 28,000. With the additional 20% near and over respectively what I paid ($32,490). I like my truck and took forever to lift it but am curious if I should take this deal. Thoughts?

It's only a deal for the dealer. It's a gimmick. I'm sure when new Camrys come out Camry owners get the same letter.

id tell them I want 20% above private party bb, which I doubt they would do. If they'd do that, I would consider.

Thanks to all of you for the quick input. That's what I thought and I like my truck and am not in the market to sell my paid off beast. Also, thanks for not being douche bags and smart assess like some guys in that other post.

Yeah I agree with the guys above. Whatever you do, DO NOT SELL your 2nd gen. These are the last legitimate generation Tacoma's out there. Keep what you got and enjoy the heck out of it.

Drive it into the ground while saving for another one.
Don't let the dealer get their claws in to you.

Sales promotions never have the buyers best interest at heart.

Now if you have time to waste, swing by with the letter, and have them give you a written offer of exactly how many $ they'll pay you. Cash. Not a value to trade (that will ruffle their feathers).

Then for fun, pick a lesser vehicle on the lot, used, like a Corolla, and ask how much cash they'd give you, along with that vehicle, for your truck. You'll see a new level of befuddlement.

If your truck is doing everything you want it to, and is paid for, keeping it is the right economic answer.

PS, I occasionally get those letters. For my 110k '04 Highlander.:rofl:

They just want you on the lot and hope you fall in love with something you see. ;)

I'm afraid I would fall in love with something on the lot...but that would be the truck I brought in.

Look at the small print. I got one of those letters one time I was actually thinking about getting a new truck. The fine print said something like 20% above kbb value of fair trade in value. It ended up being worth what the trade in value for a truck that was in good condition was.

i would say, "i will trade it back in if you give me a new 2016 Tacoma at no charge and 20% cash of my current book value"

Honestly man, I have a 2012 with pretty much all the same specs as you, just a different type of tonneau cover.

    Don't do it.

2012's on KO2's Rock the boat.

    Also, what @DrFunker said.

Drive it into the ground! That's what I plan on doing and that's why I bought a Toyota. By the time you're due for a new Tacoma, if you choose to go that route, Toyota might have fixed all the bugs on the 3rd gen.

Unless they're ACTUALLY offering you enough money to sway your opinion don't bother. I love my 2012.

All this is, is a ploy to bring you in to look at newer vehicles by basically telling you you'll get more on your trade-in than you 'typically' would. But I doubt it.

Most people who've had their car/truck for over a few years get these in the mail from time to time, the dealer expects some people are probably starting to think about buying new about that time.

Thanks man! It sits a lot different right now. Side steps kinda make it look goofy, and I'm working on fixing it.
