On your Schedule 80 2" Tube since you don`t say Butt weld ??

Just what kind of prep work was done to the joint ??

1/8" root with 45 degree bevel

    Steel Stainless or Aluminum

Just what issues are you having ??

    Trouble with tie ins ??

Being in the correct position to see ?? This is a common one torch blocking your line of sight

Being in a position to not have enough range of motion ??

This lol. I keep getting suckback on the root but I have been using 3/32 filler since its what I had at the shop with a loose 3/32 gap but went and picked up some 1/8 filler and going to try it again in a minute. Hoping I just wasn't using enough filled for a root and the 1/8 fixes it. I tried keyhole and lay wire already too. Root looks damn good and the walls are breaking down just no reinforcement

    Practice Practice

Although welding on that dirty steel in GTAW your making it so much harder on yourself.

You know that process the metal has to be squeaky clean!!

Those ends should be beveled on a lathe.

I know your just doing this for practice and no doubt are working with what you have.

    Under the conditions not bad

I know I know but when you don't have access to a lathe and just have old steel laying around.....

Main thing I'm trying to get down is the reinforcement. I don't think those factors should hurt that, no?

Gonna practice again tomorrow. Practicing a few hours a day so I don't get frustrated and get worse lol

    Best of Luck !!

We see quite a few of them when you build to compete with the China built multi process welders corners get cut .

It looks like your in the Desert just be careful the plastic gets real brittle when it gets really cold

I'm working on welding up fish plates on the inside of my Tacoma frame where my new front frame section ties into the old on my SAS. I cannot see the top of the fish plate because the body, engine, brake lines etc are in the way and i cannot get my head up there to see the puddle, anyone have any tips so i can see WTF the puddle is doing so i don't have to "pray and spray" it lol.

Guys at work use little plastic ones that are like 1.5" x 3" or so. But any mirror should work just fine. To be fair they are free and provided so it's the easiest for them lol

Got contacted today by the company i have a contract with and they said they screwed up with the placement of one of the shops they are building and because of that the 6 ships they are scheduled to start are on hold and they will not be hiring until 2017 or later.

So I decided to take my pipe welding class and some Gen Ed classes to get my associates in welding and then work on getting my Bachelors in Psych or Accounting/Business Management.
