I wounder it the dealer added that tire pressure? I that would be something that they would have in the dealer's PDI.

I'm sure just another example of toyota trying to meet CAFE requirements. You know just like the crappy 3.5L/6spd tranny option

I know this may be the wrong thread to make a rant.

But I'm starting to get fed up with all these emission standards.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a clean air and a clean environment. But what does it even matter if we have countries like Egypt and China that have more than double the pollution than the US?
    If anyone cares...

Mine were 38/40 psi when I drove home from the dealer. On the freeway the truck would start vibrating at certain times enough to shake my love handles! Thought something was wrong. Got home, checked the pressure, put them down to 29psi and everything was fine on the next freeway trip. Alot smoother over bumps now too. Amazing what too much air pressure does... BTW got the 17" Toyo's on the Sport.

I know this is a stupid question but WTF is a "chalk test?"

What is a chalk test & how do you do it? I have never heard of it & would like to try it. Been running 29 cold but seems like the tires are wearing to fast.

Take a tire crayon and draw a line on the tread surface from inner sidewall to outer sidewall . Make (2) markings at 180* apart from ea other

Do this on both front/rear axles then drive your Truck around the block a couple times until tire press is warm . Now examine your markings , if your markings is completely clean your tire press is correct . If the center is wiped clean this means over inflation . If the edge of the markings nearest the sidewalls is wiped clean then you're under inflated

Keep adjusting air press until the tire crayon marking is wiped clean . This will be your tire press you will use . Remember do this with the tires at operating temp not cold

Just for an example on my old jeep rock crawler which was a 1968 M38A1 and running 33/12.50 -15 TSL Super swampers . The tire mfg recommended 45 psi but after doing the tire crayon trick my corrected tire press was 25 psi

I even did this on my 72 Camaro when I was running M/T N50-15 tires . The tire mfg recommended 35 psi but after doing the chalk line trick my corrected tire press was 18psi . I'm even doing this on my new 275/60-15 M/T Drag Radials
