man that sucks, at least be glad they cut it after the flange or you would need the 2-1 exhaust down collector too.

they took it with a recipricating saw so that fancy thing would be cut off along with the cat so maybe take 5 extra minutes to cut the bolts off on that thing where it clamps on and then it falls off in seconds but it wouldnt stop a theft of the cat.

the only thing that would help is to weld a bracket onto the cat and weld that onto the frame and even this would only add maybe 10-15 minutes more time to steal it.

the only way to stop this is better parking lot security, sadly many companies dont have any at all

What do u mean its not a bad part? They're pretty damn expensive... especially in CA.

And to correct my previous posts... these trucks only have two cats, not three. and they're both after the two banks come together.

Same thing happened to my '92 a few years ago. Broad daylight while I was at work. Cost around.$500 for a new cat and a new muffler/downturn right after the axle since they fucked up the pipe beyond the cat too. It sucks, but I'm sure it's likely gone to meth money and has been smoked away at this point

Happy ending... a buddy of mine recommended Rod's Muffler in San Juan Capistrano. It's a real small shop, but Rod does good work for a great price! I had him put on the new cat and he had to put on new hangers too cuz the bastards cut those too. Overall I'm very satisfied with the result... for only $210 out the door!

And he quoted me $200 for a Flowmaster Delta 40 installed... so I'll be going back soon to ditch the stock muffler. :D

Is this happening on the late model trucks also? I know back when I had my 99 they have an event around 2009 sponsored by the local police that they etched and registered the cats because it was such a problem. I thought that was cool and they should do more of that.

Just lost my Cat in New Haven CT. Parts shop guy fashioned up a straight pipe for the time being. I want to fashion up a nice skid plate to cover that whole area. They will move on next time if That's there.

That's why I opted to not put one back and just cash the damn check.

If they are desperate enough,,they will find a way. I guess you could fab a 1/4" steel box around everything underneath.

I grew up in New Haven in the 70's and 80's. High crime area was an understatement. Where did it happen?

When copper was high we had people breaking into warehouses and industrial buildings to cut it out. My last shift on the street we got a suspicious vehicle call in the area, found a bunch of scrap yard receipts for copper sales sitting in the back of the truck. I spent a couple hours sitting on it, guy came back about 30 minutes from the end of my shift and loaded a bunch of 1" copper wire in the truck.

I told dispatch "I'm not writing this up, send me the rookie" So the last thing I did was catch my last felon and gave the new guy his first. There are worse ways to go out.

That area used to be OK, would always hang out on East Rock during summer evenings and watch the heat lightning.

I think PG county in Va or Md had 60 School buses popped over the summer last year.....

Cost the County a cool 1/4 million to fix....
