About to find out how mine does with around 5000lbs behind it. This is an older picture of said load. Trailer in the picture is the rental that I usually use to haul my crawler on but it is a little heavy for the Tacoma. Picking up my new 14' deck car hauler tomorrow morning. It is a wood deck, I'm going to pull most of the center floor boards and ditch the ramps to save weight. Oh and yes I will have trailer brakes, a weight distribution hitch and sway control bar. Only take the crawler out about 3-4 times a year for 50-200 mile trips. Hope all is well if not I'll use my sons 3/4ton.image.jpg

Towed it like a champ. It is not Dodge 1 ton it replaced by any means but it does better than the 2006 Silverado 1/2 ton (5.3l/auto) I used to have. Held speed in 5th with cruise set up Tehuacana hill (longest steep grade within 20 miles of the house). Pleased.

    Edit:
    trailer 1297lbs
    truck 3680lbs
    total 4977lbs

Do the 3rd gen trucks have the same manual as the second gen? Also? For third gen manny owners... Is there a rev hang like in the second gen? I'm considering a third gen to replace my second gen but only going to get a manny if there's no rev hang. Only thing I hate about my second gen.

No the third gens got a new manual transmission (RC62F) behind the 3.5 v6.
Haven't noticed the rev hang on mine but then again I am used to driving a cummins. Takes them a while to wind down.

Have noticed that if you only push the clutch about half way in the shifts are much smoother.

It does have a little bit of Rev hang, but it's not a big deal. If anything, it's nice because it keeps the rpms up a little between down shifts to smooth everything out, and it doesn't seem to hurt the up shifts to much.

That's good to hear, I'll test drive one and se for my self but it sounds like it's better than the second gen. The rev hang in my second gen is awful.

Driving one before you buy is a good idea if this is an important factor to you. My 2nd gen was auto so I can't compare them directly but theres a significant amount of rev hang in my 3rd gen.

I wouldn't let the rev hang keep you from buying the MT. I don't even notice it anymore.

Just look at all of the videos of people driving them. I think they sound just like a 1991 or 2001 or 2011.

I have not noticed a rev hang. Also first gear with the 4.3 end in the third gen is great for slow traffic and it will not stall or bog down even going up a hill.

For those with the 3rd gen manual. Has anyone noticed the the engine power change Atkins to Otto and Port to Direct? Is it based on rpm or throttle position? Today driving around it made me think it was based on throttle and engine load. I have been driving with the radio and A/C off to get a feel for the engine and listening to everything. Too it could be my imagination...

The Otto cycle kicks in at 3500 rpm like you flipped a switch you better be ready for it.

    Quick question guys

How would you guys rate the seats in the trd? Are the Back seats pretty tough, and hold up fairly ok throughout over the years?

I fold mine up a lot so i can use it as trunk space and was just wondering if anyone has any input on the durability of the foam used inside. Thank you

....that's why I'm not feeling anything...I shift before I hit 3000. On a side note 21.6 mpg and not broken in yet!
