Boy, that's some nice looking turf.

Mine is the equivalent of Bea Arthur in the grass world.

Viking Brett and I could never get a good tune with my set up. Everything is new except the antenna. That was a hand me down.

Still need to finish the set up by also adding a quick (dis)connect. Or getting a shorter antenna. As it is I can't pull into the garage without it dragging on the door, getting snagged on stuff, etc.

So since we are talking cb's, any idea why people can't hear me unless they are less the 50' away? I can hear them perfectly but they can't hear me. I had this problem with a 4ft firestick on the tailgate and now a magnet mount on my roof that I found in a buddies garage. Kinda leads me to the believe that the radio is the issue.

I have the same problem. Forgot I had it on once when I was going to a place I went all the time back at my parents. Except this place is accessed through a parking garage, and it didn't clear... Didn't wear a hole in the cap though as I dragged it across the ceiling on my way through. I tried using a quick connect when I first got it, but I got a heavy duty one (it's a heavy antenna and the 'regular' duty I got flopped around/was too loose) and it was so heavy duty the friggin' spring was impossible to push down and twist to get it to release. I ended up selling that and now I just screw it in/out whenever I want to use it. If I'm going wheeling/on a trip I take a couple of adjustable wrenches to really tighten it since it invariably comes loose if I don't.

That could be one of several things. Is the radio grounded? Is the antenna grounded (not the magnetic one, that grounds through the magnet or is an NGP I believe)? Was it ever tuned, and if so what was your best SWR? What radio? I'm willing to bet it was/is a grounding issue. It's possible though that if you've tried to transmit a bunch without a proper ground or extremely high SWR, you've fried the radio or at least damaged it.

Doesn't the radio have to be grounded to work? I can't remember how I ran the ground wire. The positive is straight from the battery. The antenna I had on the tailgate I assumed it was grounded through the mount from the bolts to the metal bed. I did tune it at one point but I can't remember what we had for swr (my memory sucks for being 26 lol) The magnet antenna isn't grounded other than the magnet. Uniden pro 520xl You are probably right that I have a ground issue.

I think i have the same radio, grounded the antenna and grounded the radio with the ground wire that came out of the back of the radio with the power wire.

I'm pretty happy about it, I just moved into this house in January and I didn't have to do anything to the lawn. I just waited for the snow to melt and then I mowed it and this is what it looks like thanks to the previous owner

We babysat a friend's "pet" rattle snake for a year. (our house was known as the reptile house... we had a lot of snakes, lizards, etc).

    Stymie was his name.

Friend has his venom sacks tied (so we were told). Cleaning his tank was a similar experience you mentioned, however one day my friend got bit doing it.

I called Boulder Comm. Hospital to ask if they had anti-venom just in case. Nope. Closest hospital that did was in CO Springs.

I hung up the phone, turned to my friend and said, "You gunno die, Boy."

Turns out, the venom sacks were tied.

I'm a safe idiot when it comes to taxes.

I pay the quarterly estimated taxes based on income, then do my deductions when I file. I know I'm basically giving the gov't an interest free loan for the year but it's nice getting a chunk of money in return...

...that gets funneled right back into the tax system.

Having 2nd thoughts, think I might want to take the Tundra to Moab this year. That might be too much as I would need a lift, sliders and a bed rack of some sort to hold the tent.................. not sure.

Electrically, yes, but it does make a difference where you ground it for radio performance. With a metal bed you should have less of an issue that us 2nd Gens even though corner of the bed isn't the best location. I run the same radio. Another possibility would be a bad mic. I've seen that happen, where just replacing the mic solved the problem. Actually I think @Ice Horse had that issue once.
