I am trying to make it and would love to meet everyone that gave me advice on my truck in person, but I am also on the council of fishermen that is working with the DLNR that is trying to keep Kaena open to everyone. The DLNR's main concern is the 4 wheeling that is taking place and that undesiginated roads are getting eroded because of it. A few years ago, the plan for DLNR was to just lock the gate at the end of the road and not let anyone in there anymore but we worked with them to keep it open. My family has been fishing in there since my grandfather was in his 30's and now I take my kids in there. We consider that area as an extension of our home. Please keep in mind your actions and the ramifications that are associated with it please.

I've met most of our main group of members and we are all responsible when it comes to our actions. I wasn't a part of it but a large number of our group were actually involved in the original marking of the designated areas. This is our home and we will take care of it!

I look forward to meeting you on Sunday!

That's great to hear. I did all the walk ins to designate the roads in kaena and actually we had one late last year about a week after I got my new truck and it was rainy in there. Yeah, stock tires suck in the mud. Hahaha.

I'm back. I just submitted for my permit again. I doubt I'll have it in time, but I'll be ready for the next one.

Just to add to this, it kind of says a lot about the TW group when people actually take the time to get a pass/permit and those who don't have one yet aren't the type to say, "Ho brah, anybody like give me the combo?" or "I no more permit, but can just slide in with you guys!?"

I'll see if the wife doesn't mind riding along. If I do, I'm jumping in with @Imchang27 since we know he can make it. :crapstorm:

I dunno if i'll be able to make it...turns out I shredded my current insurance card when I put the new one in...but the start date isn't for another 2 weeks...

so I pretty much wasted today driving around trying to get a safety check to pay my registration since it came due while I was still gone.

good thing for spare cars heh

No, all of the fluorescent trail markers that actually mark the boundaries of thedifferent trails. Don't remember if I met you when we marked the trails.

Nope, didn't do those, but we help choose what road was going to be kept open.

Good to see people taking care of the Aina!
I spent a lot of time at Kaena point from 84 to when I left Oahu in 95.
Saw a lot of trash just thrown everywhere. I was there to fish and 4-wheeling of course.
So what's up with this pass? Does it cost anything? Is there a gate at the Waialua entrance and a officer checking passes?
Did they fix the road so that you can drive all the way around now?
I remember the road being washed out by the surf near the Makaha entrance.

No. Pass is free and last a year. Yes there's a gate and a combo lock that they change the combo on weekly. No guard and I dont think the road will ever get fixed. There's a mini Jurassic Park fence to keep predators out of the bird sanctuary that now takes up the entire point
